GlobalFoundries groundbreaking set for July 24

GlobalFoundries Inc. will hold its official groundbreaking for Fab 2 at the Luther Forest Technology Campus in Malta on July 24.

CEO Doug Grose and Chairman Hector Ruiz are expected to be at the event, which has been a much-anticipated milestone for construction of the $4.2 billion computer chip factory.

GlobalFoundries started to clear the 223-acre site at Luther Forest were it is building the fab the week of June 15, although no public ceremony was held at the time.

GlobalFoundries officials are putting together an invitation-only event for the groundbreaking, and 300 people are expected to attend.
Meanwhile, Vice President Joseph Biden, who is scheduled to speak tomorrow in Saratoga County, is expected to mention the GlobalFoundries project by name.

It had been hoped that Biden might have been able to attend the groundbreaking at Luther Forest, but his schedule could not permit it.

Thank you Secretary Clinton and Senator Schumer! :patriot:

3. Background info if anyone is interested....
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), the only other player in PC and server chips besides Intel, decided to spin off its Fabs and split the company into two. AMD now designs x86 and graphics processors and the spinoff company, GlobalFoundries builds and packages the chips. AMD used to only have fabs in Dresden, Germany and packaged the chips in Malaysia. Now, New York will have many new high paying tech jobs!
