If this unrec. feature is designed to better the Greatest Page, why not just up |
|
Edited on Thu Jul-09-09 04:58 PM by Mrs. Overall
the number of recs. to get a post nominated to the Greatest Page.
Instead of 5 recs, up it to 10 or 15. Wouldn't that reflect a DU majority and make it more difficult for trolls/disruptors to get enough recs. for their asinine, trouble-making posts?
It seems like that would be a better solution for the Greatest Page than the unrec. and the shitstorm it's causing.
What do others think?

I hate to see everyone at each other's throats like this. It was bad enough with Michael Jackson.

14. I assure you, I'm serious, you have a very good idea. Much better than unrecommend. |
|
Do not be surprised if your suggestion is adopted.

2. I think that just about any change will result in a shitstorm of complaint |

5. From a technical stand-point, it probably would've saved Skinner a few lines of programming code. |
|
Of course, a lot of people here apparently wanted an unrecommend feature\, so the simpler solution was ignored.

9. That's a good idea, but we'd still see OPs like "FUCK the GOP!!1! n/t" get 187 recs |
|
And that's why we need Unrecommend.

16. "Wouldn't that reflect a DU majority" - not if there are 200 more who are against it... |
|
And it would be silly to require hundreds of people to get a thread to Greatest (hopefully we can all agree on that)

17. Yeah, I do see your point. |

Perhaps unrec. is the only way to go. It just seems like it can be misused by assholes, trolls, and the like.

18. (shrug) Anything can be misused by assholes. Nothing will prevent that... |
|
At least with *both* rec/unrec, it can be used *both* ways. With both features, a wrong in either direction can be corrected. Not to guarantee that a wrong *will* be corrected, but it at least gives us the *chance*.
