I'm a bit scared to ask this, but.... |
|
with the creation of the "unrecommend" feature, will there now also be something that's the opposite of "kicking"(I suppose you could call it "slapping)that allows anyone to just suddenly STOP a thread?
It seems like the kind of thing the "free speech can't be tolerated on DU" crowd would like.

1. That was tried during the primaries... "let it die".... didn't work |
|
...
and the "unrecommend" feature doesn't stifle free speech at all.... not one word of your post is altered or deleted by an unrec.

3. I Want A New MJ Thread |

What a waste of electrons...either you like the feature and use it or you don't. It's not like posts and threads are gonna be censored. Seems a bunch of noses are outta joint...my suggestion: get rhinoplasty.

4. My disagreement is that it allows |
|
trolls to invade DU, never post (after the first 100+ innocent "you are correct" posts).
And then they can "unrecommend" every important thread, and "recommend" bullshit threads. Right now, all they can do is recommend, but reasonable (liberal) DUers can overwhelm them with recommends on the really good stuff.
But, whatever.

6. Our mods and admins are way better than the FReepers, trolls, lurkers and disruptors. |
|
Sure, there'll be dozens of pizzas served daily, but that's part of the fun.
I just wish their comments weren't routinely wiped - excepting the really offensive ones, that is.

9. Your point is valid and perhaps it's something we can petition the admins to correct |
|
but overall the system does have good intentions

Where did the free speech go? I wasn't aware of a rule that says more than x unrecommends and your thread gets zapped. Why can't we have a DU home page that is free of the bullshit and filled with articles that have wide support from all DUers. Why, when I create a new thread, that only one side can decide the worthiness of putting in on the home page and not the other side (and when I say "side" there is no defintion just two groups of people who happen to disagree on a topic). And seriously why in the love of jeebus do we have to create "K&R if you agree on blah blah blah" threads? What if I don't agree - I'm shit out of luck and have to see it on the DU homepage? What if ALOT of us don't agree, do we start an opposing one and send flame wars to the DU home page?
Nothing has changed except creating a system that allows the very best stuff written in DU to make it to the top of the list and honored on the home page of DU. I would rather showcase that talent instead pushing flamewars off into DU home page.

10. No, but I think you're onto the good side of unrecommend. |
|
Maybe more people will just unrecommend a thread they don't like, rather than posting that they don't like it - thereby kicking it.
