The recommend function stifles dissent and free speech

If people use the recommend function on other threads, those threads will get more votes than this one thereby kicking it off the "Greatest Page". As a consequence, the several dozen or so people who read only the "Greatest Page" at DU will never get to see this and many other threads. This essentially destroys free speech.

I urge you all to organize candlelight vigils to raise awareness to this affront to the principles upon which our country was founded.

Read the rules and try saying the words they tell you not to. If they get deleted, and they will, then Paulsby is right. We all accept that our speech will be restricted to an extent when we sign up, and we accept it because we agree that those words are over the line. However, whether we accept it or not doesn't change the fact that technically there isn't free speech on DU.
