Who gives a rat's fart if your post is granted "greatest" status or not?

Your post is still on DU, it just isn't "GREAT". Oh my GAWD, they all hate my posts!!!

Are your egos so easily bruised you cannot stand the thought that your insightful posts aren't going to be on the "Greatest" page?
someone may actually disagree? If there is an un recommend that person is a lurking freeper? WTF!?

Wow, some of you need to get counseling, seriously.

3. I love a post like yours which devolves quickly enough into an ad-hominem broad-brush attack...
...that I can just skip down to the last sentence and know the rest of your post, whether it was insightful or not, eventually winds up devolving into flamebait. I wish all of them included such time-saving features.

4. Actually, the freepers were the first to use it
I've been lurking on and off today and every single thread about Ensign was immediately unrec'ed.

So, your point?

7. That's easy to check, you know.

There were two threads I couldn't view because I was ignoring the author... but I checked a few others. Some hadn't been unrec'd even once, some had. Seemed like those had only been unreced a few times.

There was a thread about how the Stimulus is already working that was downrec'd a lot more.

6. I believe President Obama would care,
maybe that's why "empathy" is such a consideration with the new Supreme Court Justice in spite of Republican cries to the contrary.

9. Now, a post needs the full force of brilliant argument, and not just five pals
saying "Me, too" to gain "fame" on this little corner of the internet.

11. I learned long ago that it's virtually impossible to change anyone's mind..
Arguing online.

Brilliant argument or no, everyone is going to rec or unrec a post according to their already existing biases and prejudices.

That's just the way humans roll.

12. Yes, that's true. And that's fine. We'll get a sense of the forum that way.
Not the viewpoint of six earnest flakes who are unrepresentative of the place.

15. I don't pick threads to read by that criteria anyway..
I always skim through the forum and pick according to whether the title piques my interest, my link goes straight to GD, not to the home page.

Personally I think it's going to have a small negative effect on posts that my be interesting but out of the mainstream. I expect to see unrec "duels" here shortly if they haven't already started.

16. Are some people looking for "Praise" or just voicing opinion?
Some are arguing that Free Speech has been tranpled on DU.
some are extremely upset because their post could be removed from "Greatest" status because someone unrecommends it.

I ask: Who cares?

The post is still POSTED, it has not been removed by a mod, the post is still live on DU, why are so many prissy underpants being ruffled?

17. Perhaps
if it had been presented with a clearer sense of WHY and what the need for it really was, fewer knickers would be twisted.

It may also seem a sad reflection on the need for a Negative rather than Neutral position. The same Quality Control -- if that's what it is -- could have been achieved with higher (Positive) Rec counts required to reach Greatest.

It appears there are factions on DU who feel they were somehow threatened by what made it to Greatest, which they consider "unworthy."

If this has been a big issue, why aren't more DUers aware of it?
