Pat Quinn deserves admiration and support..Governor of Illinois who |
|
Edited on Thu Jul-09-09 09:05 PM by Stuart G
is trying to raise state income taxes to pay for social services. It takes a whole lot of courage to propose and stand behind a 33 percent increase in state income taxes, (from 3 to 4.5 percent) but that is exactly what he is doing. Republicans oppose this as well as a few Dems. Even if he doesn't get the increase, he sure has tried and stood his ground. Every once in a while someone tries to protect social programs and improve education with more than words. Quinn is doing just that. (He is Blagos successor)

if Illnois is still paying their teachers their retirement, I'll be paying Illinois income taxes again. I'll do it gladly to keep up social services there. (I live in Arkansas, which is why I'm not paying them now.)

2. He's also threatening to cut lots of social services. I work for a non profit hospice |
|
Quinn is threatening to cut the public aid hospice benefit. He's planning on cutting lots of services to lots of needy children if the state legislature refuses to raise taxes. Those stupid asses keep refusing to raise taxes . I'm worried about my job. But, I'm more worried about my patients.

can to avoid any cuts at all. It is a very hard place for any politician. He is using every tool he has to prevent cuts. The state budget is 9 Billion short of being ballanced.
