Gave the little neighbor kid a BIG book of geography the book was bigger than 10x15 |
|
and very sturdy...kwel book I gave my daughter when she was young
I am having a yardsale and it was in the sale, but he is starting 1st grade and is just so darn cute
for an hour after he and his older brother sat in their yard and I could hear him asking brother
what city is that
what is that state
what does that symbol mean
As a history/Geography teacher, I smiled for a long time after that :)

I stayed in my room for days on end with them.

34. Depends on how you measure Westernmost Easternmost |
|
Lines of Longitude converge at the poles such that Hawaii may be farther wet of the prime meridian measured in NM than Alaska. I'm not sure I haven't done the calculation.
Just pointing out that it's not always intuitive.

27. Here are the answers: |
|
The most distant capitals in adjacent states--Phoenix to Sacramento. California borders Arizona, but they're 631 miles apart.
The most distant largest cities in adjacent states--Los Angeles, California to Portland, Oregon. 824 miles apart--yet I had a friend who drove that distance every year to get home from college.

10. My favorite as a kid was a jigsaw puzzle of |
|
the United States. Each piece was cut in the shape of a state with symbols of what they were noted for, the name of the state and the capitol. Loved to work it..also learned the names of all the states and the capitols at the same time.

My grandson LOVES geography. He goes on google earth and goes all over the place, has some kiddie books with the basic landmarks in them. But a real geography book? He would be in heaven. I am going to go to yard sales this week-end and look for some.

I did not plan for these little punkinheads to wiggle their way into my heart the way they did. Now I tell everybody - when you wonder why you had those pita kids - it's so you could have Grandkids!!! My cousin says he wishes he could have had the grandkids first! It's too much fun and a whole new world for you to look forward to. Have fun in Canada.

Trying NOT to 'encourage' the girls; they're still busy with studies! I WILL be an 'elderly' grandmother, but, so what? Girls LOVE to 'teach,' which is what they're studying! and I love to hear about them doing so! Younger one studying 'parenting' at the moment; says its 'easy and interesting!'
