2. Because he hasn't been in office for six months
I suspect many people did not really listen to Obama during the campaign.

3. Which Things Didn't They Listen To?
Edited on Fri Jul-10-09 06:29 AM by MannyGoldstein
We were bamboozled on a number of issues - issues where he's said he'd do X, but instead he's done the opposite.

As to 6 months... take a look at what FDR did in his first 6 months when confronted with roughly the same level as crisis.

6. Bamboozled?
I surely wasn't...I actually listened to what President Obama was campaigning about and knew what kind of mess he was walking into. FDR didn't come into office with 2 wars going on and the Depression had been going for two years rather than the 4 months when President Obama took office.

Now which pony didn't he deliver yet? Or should he have turned the country and economy inside out...from right to left overnight? Yes, there are things I hope he addresses...the criminality of the past regime, reregulating the financial industry and bring out troops home safely, but I also see a lot of progress...things that wouldn't have been addresed had McCain won.

FDR sure didn't cure the Great Depression in 6 months...and Prssident Obama won't either.

7. Hyper-Secretive Government, DADT, Permanent Detention Without Court Review
Edited on Fri Jul-10-09 07:30 AM by MannyGoldstein
$13 Trillion for bankers (and lunch at the White House) but 5% of that for the rest of us, being open to no public health care option, prosecution for war crimes off the table (and torture seems to be continuing, just not water boarding), NAFTA, warrantless wiretapping, etc.

Which of these is not a specific 180 degree turn from what he explicitly promised?

10. Nice Boilerplate...
Firstly...a good portion of that 13 trillion (your figure) has gone to shore up personal savings accounts and investments...money you don't see, but millions have and do...peoples whose portfolios were nearly wiped out earlier this year. Sure, it's those who have money who are recovering first, but that's the money that will go to revitalize an economy...invest in new businesses and re-start the consumer economy. I have been critical of not forcing the banks to loosen credit and that the "stimulus" package wasn't enough...but to say that the government gave 13 trillion to bankers is disengenuous.

DADT? Yes, it's time to get rid of it, just as it segregating the military, but FDR sure didn't do that during the middle of WWII. It didn't happen until the troops were home and the policy could be implemented effectively. And trust me DADT is the least of the problems our broken military has. Our troops need to be brought home safely...I would hope sooner than later. That said, I have been critical of this Administration for digging in deeper in an Afghan civil war few of us in this country understand and has been a drain on many other powers. Yet, you take polls and people show support for this action...one President Obama said he was going to pursue last year.

Now I sure haven't heard President Obama say the public option was "off the table"...if anything, two weeks ago, it looked like any public subsidized health care was a dead issue...now we're seeing the worm turn...pressure being applied to Demcrats from all sides, including the White House, where a public option will definitely be in the House version...and looks more and more like there won't be a fillibuster and final passage will only take 51 votes.

Now I'd like to see some proof that this country is still torturing...or that black sites are in operation. If you have a reliable link, I'd like to see it.

Last, but definitely not least. I'm with you on prosecuting the many war criminals who took this country to war under false pretenses...but it's not just a US matter, but a world one. I've long felt that our political system was overwhelmed and a full accounting won't happen without international pressure. While I was hoping Holder would be bolder in pressing investigations, but he's still running a short-handed department (thanks to GOOP holds) that had to be rebuilt from the bottom up.

Again, sorry you're not getting all your ponies in 6 months...I have a few I'd like to see as well, but I am looking at 4 years of results, not 6 months. But definitely keep calling out President Obama...but there's also a responsibility of our other elected officials (Congresscritters and Senators) who still work in a beltway domianted by a hostile corporate media and have abdicated a lot of their power in the past 8 years. Again...change doesn't happen overnight.

Now let's see where things are in 6 months, one year and beyond...I couldn't see anyone coming into this situation who could have handled it much better.

Cheers...

9. I agree with your post KharmaTrain.
Does anyone really know what crap from the Bush administration and other repig admins, this man has to clean up? it will not be done in 148 days. And it is up to us to speak out if President Obama tends to go off track.

5. It IS retch-worthy, and here's why...
Without watching today's show, I've seen this conversation before, however, what it ends up suggesting is a LIE.

Those groups expressing dissatisfaction in Obama:

(1) Republicans who applauded George Bush in Oklahoma last weekend and plan to vote for Palin in 2012.
(2) Liberal (Democrats and Liberals LEFT of Democrats) who don't think Obama's ACCOMPLISHMENTS are liberal enough.

FOLKS - IT'S NOT LIKE THESE GROUPS HAVE ANYTHING IN COMMON!

The point is that the implied, undebated result will be group (1) goes away suggesting that THEIR dissatisfaction is SOMEHOW supported by group (2) and THAT'S 180 DEGREES AWAY FROM THE TRUTH...

11. Fascist Friday Has Returned...
Wanna bet CSPIN and its cable overlords are getting checks from the usual suspects...lobbyists and right wing operatives. The saving grace is the callers who have been amping up their complaints as well as posters here who have been documenting the bias for a long time.

But then, I can stomache Joey and refuse to dumb myself down to watch Chicken Noodle Nuze.

Cheers...
