Full CIA investigation called for on Capitol Hill

Jul 10th, 2009 | WASHINGTON -- The chairwoman of a House Intelligence panel says it's imperative that lawmakers launch an immediate investigation on the CIA's admission that it misled Congress multiple times over the last eight years.

Democratic Rep. Jan Schakowsky of Illinois said the CIA systematic lied to Congress, and called that inexcusable in a letter obtained by The Associated Press Friday.

Democrats revealed late Tuesday that CIA Director Leon Panetta informed Congress in late June that the spy agency had been withholding important information about a secret program begun after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

House Intelligence Chairman Silvestre Reyes said Tuesday night he is considering an investigation. Panetta has launched an internal probe at the CIA to determine why Congress was not told about the program. Exactly what the classified program entailed is still unclear. Reyes is a Texas Democrat.

2. While I applaud the move, good friggin luck investigating the CIA.
How do you begin to investigate (or even oversee) an entity whose sole purpose is to do things in a clandestine fashion? If they're really the best in the world, you'd have to find a willing, honest whistleblower to make an investigation happen.

3. We could start with Panetta, have him testify to what he told
Congress critters that was so damaging. He wasn't part of the CIA in the previous admin. Also, I'll just bet there are people out there anxious to blow a whistle.

I guess we'll see.

5. One can only hope something will come of it.
I'll be pleasantly surprised if that's the case though. These fuckers have a code of silence that would make the mafia blush.

The Dems have sure gotten more frisky since they got their 60-vote "Filibuster Buster" concealed carry license!

By the way, aren't there a shitload of Repubs who need to apologize for calling Pelosi a liar? I love the smell of vindication in the morning!

6. There are indeed. But Repubs never admit they're wrong... and they're wrong continually (nt)

7. So spending all their time apologizing would limit the amount of time they spend on their knees...
in prayer.
