Expedia survey on world best tourists state french are the worst ones
Edited on Fri Jul-10-09 10:00 AM by demoleft
...though i find the bbc title a bit too...partial, on it ("'Rude' French are worst tourists") .
everybody knows, if there's only one chance to softly stab the french, english take it!
hehe.

the survey is based on 4500 hotels worldwide, answering on tourists behaviour.
italians do not show in the top ten list (oh my!), and apart from elegance in dressing i could not find details.
best of all the japanese, then the Brits - who are ranked the worst by european hoteliers, though.

"French tourists are the worst in the world, coming across as penny-pinching, rude and terrible at languages, according to a new survey.
...
US tourists also got top marks for generosity, as the biggest spenders and tippers.
But they fell short on other counts as the least tidy, the loudest, the worst complainers and the worst dressed."
(BBC)

i do not know about tourists, but if i had to rank hoteliers, i'd say US first and France last, very much last.

here's the expedia top ten about best tourists:

Japan
Britain
Canada
Germany
Switzerland
Holland
Australia
Sweden
USA
Denmark

i could not find the expedia link to the survey.

ciao DUers. have a great weekend.

1. But I thought Americans were the arrogant ones?

Sorry to sound arrogant...

2. For some insight into this subject read "The Ugly American",
if you haven't already. I admit that the book is dated, but many of the ideas contained in it still bear merit.

The movie, starring Marlon Brando, is a watered down version of the book with some of the main characters butchered, but still is interesting.
