I love Unrecommend.
It's helps me know which threads are neutral and which threads are bad.

It's a real timesaver, and it lets people express themselves.

2. I think it would be an improvement if people were forced to identify themselves in order to use it.

3. Yeah. Who needs a secret ballot?
We need to know who to persecute.

:sarcasm:

Oh, so-called "Democratic" Underground.

7. Why?
"forced"? Do you feel that if DUers were "forced" to identify themselves it would inhibit their using it? Is that what you want to see happen? You feel inhibiting people from using 'unrecommend' would be an improvement? Wow!

I have used it because there are threads, ie those dealing with the new feature, that don't belong, imo, on the Greatest page. If I feel a thread is full of crap, I have no problem posting that in the specific thread as well.

18. Because I think that would inhibit abuse of it
There is animosity between certain members of DU. Some would be tempted to vent their animosity by unrecommending posts that didn't deserve to be unrecommended. That could cause some of the better posts to sink out of existence. Having to reveal themselves would inhibit that type of abuse I believe.

19. Do you believe that the majority of DUers are bitter, vengeful posters...
who are bent on using this to 'vent their animosity' or do you believe, as I do, those who will use it the way you describe are, in actuality, a very small minority of DUers?

20. I believe that they're a minority
but large enough to screw things up.

Anyhow, what is the problem with identifying yourself in unrecommending a thread? We have to identify ourselves when we comment on a thread. What's the big deal?

21. I have no problem identifying myself and stating why I, were I doing so, unrecommending...
a thread. In fact, I did exactly that and was promptly called arrogant for doing so. The irony is I self-identified because of posts like yours that seem to infer those who use the unrecommend feature are doing so for nefarious reasons and would not want to be known.

I unrecommend threads that, in my opinion, shouldn't be on the Greatest, I recommend those I, in my opinion, should appear there. You have a 'vote', I have a 'vote', I don't see the problem as neither of us has more influence than the other.

Oh, and just so you know, I neither recommended nor unrecommended this thread.

14. Have you always wanted Recommenders to be identified as well?
"Forced to identify themselves" in order to use the Recommend function?

If you've never called for that, why not?

They are great! Of course anywhere you add ketchup and mustard are fair game for some real mayo too. Yeah, we have descended to condiment hell!

I think I'm going to have a PBM sandwich!
