Countering the Blue Dogs' objections to Medicare reimbursement rates. |
|
We ought not write them off on this. They have a point. Medicare reimbursement rates are *not* uniform throughout the country. There's a regional formula that sets reimbursement rates for different areas of the country.
It is *sorely* outdated. Especially for rural areas or smaller urban areas that have seen dramatic increases in cost of living / cost of doing business without any adjustment in basic reimbursement rates for physicians who "accept" Medicare.
It's a valid issue and ought to be part of the bigger public option debate. If we address it well, some of the Blue Dogs will back a public option, imho.

1. Right on: I have so often been disappointed by them, but this time |
|
the Blue Dogs are correct. Over the years I have often watch Senate and House in Session and this formula they use is unfair and outdated.
We should support the Blue Dogs on this, most especially if this brings them over.
When the public hears these tales of unfairness in the system this makes them distrust government.

2. Why do you think Medicare rates should be part of healthcare reform? It's a separate issue - bring |
|
it up as a separate issue. We don't need yet another big issue holding up healthcare reform. (I don't disagree there are serious issues - just that it's not part of healthcare reform).
