1. I read that the proposed head of the Young Republicans is 38
and I don't think the gerontocracy in that party sees the problem with that.

After all, this is the party of the youthful indiscretion into the 50s.

I suppose their members don't feel qualified to govern until they're into their seventies.

Alas, they're not ready even then.

8. Yep. This prize:
The GOP's Young Hatemonger
by John Avlon

Audra Shay, accused of endorsing racism on Facebook, is favored to become the head of the Young Republicans tomorrow. John Avlon uncovers new details about her disturbing online comments.

Thirty-eight-year-old Audra Shay’s campaign to become the next chairman of the Young Republicans went from obscure to infamous over the past week, after The Daily Beast revealed details of posts of her Facebook account. Specifically, a thread where one of her friends posts that ““Obama Bin Lauden (sic) is the new terrorist… Muslim is on there side … need to take this country back from all of these mad coons… and illegals,” and Shay responds eight minutes later with: “You tell em Eric! lol.”

“This is an outrage and I CAN NOT believe this nation has him as our leader! It makes me sick!” She posted a few minutes later: “My disdain for Obama is directly proportionate for his disdain of this country.”

Following those revelations, several Young Republican colleagues urged Shay to remove herself from tomorrow’s election at the group’s convention in Indianapolis—a request Shay, the favorite going in to the vote, has pointedly refused. Instead, she said that she was responding to an earlier post from her friend, and labeled criticism against her “political attacks” which “proves that my opponents will stoop to the lowest levels to steal this election from the jaws of victory.” .............(more)

11. My Dad was chairman of the Young Democrats here in Indiana a long time ago
I think it was around when JFK was running for POTUS and I believe he was in his early thirties at the time.

10. I was gonna say, compared to the AVERAGE age of 60 or 80
30's is at least HALF that and "young" by comparison...

5. One is considered a Young Democrat right into their 30's.
Pretty standard.

The Young Democrats of America (YDA) is the largest youth-led, national, partisan political organization. YDA mobilizes young people under the age of 36 to participate in the electoral process, influences the ideals of the Democratic Party, and develops the skills of the youth generation to serve as leaders at the local and national level.

6. Really? I sort of think that once you're past normal college age you're no longer "young" anything.

7. The goal of these orgs is to mobilize the younger generations.
After about 35, most people stay active or vote regularly on their own.

9. yes, I had to laugh at 40 being young - if you are lucky enough to

live to 80 then 40 is half your life. so 40 is middle age.

when I was 40 I gave a lot of thought to how the last half of my life was going to be and made some decisions.

actually, after 40 you have about 20 years of a good physical life (if lucky).

once again the repugs don't know which end is up.
