is DU a blog or a party inside the democratic party?
i ask because we have a paper here in italy, with a blog online, which is not really a newspaper but a "party", in a sense.
it makes opinions, condition the centre-left choices, enters the political arena.

now this is a blog.
this unrec function - at first i did not give much importance. "much ado about nothing", as a thread here goes.
but then i read the words and the violence of some opinions - and i started to doubt that i was on a blog in which all free democrats discuss - i found myself in a party storm.

i was pushed back to the Obama/Clinton threads of last year - and i can assure u, though i like discussions and flames even - because i like passion - still i was afraid u were going to split too much in two, as a Democratic Party, during the Primaries.
such was the violence of the opinions expressed at the time.

i felt the same violence these days, about this UNrec feature.
is this blog too much similar to a party itself, making trends and opinions?

it's a change in its nature - or am i wrong?

ciao DUers.

1. I'm confounded by the entire debate
I never even look at the recs or the views just the subjects in determining what to read. I usually jump right to the discuss page and go from there. I think you would miss a lot of informative posts if you only went by recs or views (especially those posted late at night).

2. indeed i do not do. but...
...the threads about the "greatest page" - kind of front page news - and the struggle between so called "centrists" and "leftists" in the threads about this new feature threw some lights on the situation.

feels like an inner party war, here on DU.

3. It will pass
the fact is that the greatest page is now full of almost entirely useful stuff and devoid of the usual noise. For example, very few of these rec/unrec threads are getting there and staying there. I'd say it is working just fine and if the admins stick with it, within a few days the community will have managed to digest the change (which is not all that big.)

5. We're the malcontents sitting down in the basement
grumbling about what all the people upstairs are doing in our names because they obviously don't know the whole scoop.
