What the hell do they have to lose???

They know all about these super secret horrible illegal programs.

And certainly they know by now that there's no accountability for actions, so even if they pledged to never tell anyone, we all know that they're safe from any consequences.

So, if they really want to do the American public a favor, rather than just stomping their feet and quitting their jobs because of all the illegal activities they see around them, why don't they just whistleblow?

2. They'd most likely be prosecuted

Those who actually committed the offenses? Tangerine LaBamba said it earlier this evening, and I'm thinking she's right: We'll never see a prosecution.

If you are able to unearth a copy, search for James Comey's resignation speech at the Department of Justice. I believe it's been scrubbed, but just reading it (when that was possible,) was a surreal experience.

4. Prosecuted by who?

I've read many of Comey's things, and while I used to think he was almost heroic, I've lately reassessed (based on some of his emails wrt the torture memos).

He's a coward like the rest of them, but it'd be nice to see him try to salvage his integrity with a massive move like this.

Oh, yeah. That's why he fought the entire executive branch's attempts to force him to sign off on the program in the first place.

It's amazing to me that those here think they know better. Of course, we also have an entire site of those who think they know every last thing Patrick Fitzgerald has ever done wrong as well, but don't have the balls to become a US Attorney themselves.

If you don't think that there would be charges made by sundown of any day he and Goldsmith decided to talk about the stuff they know about that hasn't even hit the press, you're nuts.

See whether you don't think he was all about CYA. He believed the issue could be "fixed" if only they had given him another week to finesse the language.

He resigned because he didn't want to be caught holding a bag. He knew what they were doing was wrong. And he was miffed because they didn't take his option of covering their tracks better.

3. Why doesn't someone just empanel a Grand Jury?

These guys aren't talking without a gun to their heads. They know that they'll be villified or blacklisted if they come forward.

What do they have to lose? Their livelihoods. Their careers. Their influence.

"You'll never work in this town again" is not an empty threat to them. Sure, they may find work, but they'll never advance. They clawed their way to the top - and may have stepped on a few toes gtting there.

They'd be finished.
