FAUX Noise: Small businesses have 500 or fewer employees!

And small business is 99% of American business! LOL

They're doing this because Obama is thinking about giving small business some TARP money.

FAUX is trying to include big business too so they've revised the numbers. Now ALL business is small business. Don't cha know?

I hope Media Matters is catching this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Small_business

A small business is a business that is privately owned and operated, with a small number of employees and relatively low volume of sales. The legal definition of "small" often varies by country and industry, but is generally under 100 employees in the United States and under 50 employees in the European Union. In comparison, the definition of mid-sized business by the number of employees is generally under 500 in the U.S. and 250 for the European Union. In Australia, a small business is defined as 1-19 employees and a medium business as 20-200 employees. Small businesses are normally privately owned corporations, partnerships, or sole proprietorships.

1. stupid jerks. 250 or so employees would be considered Midsize business
often making in the neighborhood of $50million to $60million per year with net earnings of $5 million or more.

These pukes can die.

Not that I want to defend fox news, but unlike them, I want to make -good- arguements. Since my dad's a 30+ year veteran of the SBA, it struck me to check there first as to what constituted a "small business". Not that Wikipedia is a terrible source, but I always prefer to go somewhere lese unless I'm looking up rock solid facts, where no judgement is required.

4. Whether or not a business is considered small
is determined differently, depending on the industry or area of business. Some are determined by number of employees, some by annual revenue. http://www.acqnet.gov/Far/current/html/Subpart%2019_1.html#wp1101805

"Our small businesses are ADDING jobs"..sez Mccain spokesmodel

Do they really add that many jobs? Define "small business".. Every "small business" I have ever had contact with was mostly a family-run business.. They hired family & friends, and most paid pretty low wages because they were a SMALL business..

Politicians need to be forced to RE-define just what they mean when they say "small business"..

When I hear small business, I think of the family run furniture store in my town, or the local diner/restaurant..

Just how many employees does a business have to have (or not have) to BE a small business? 10...20...100..500?

A business with more than 50 employees is NOT a small business, in MY mind..

There needs to be a whole new definition..

Mom & Pop...5 or under
small....6-15
medium...16-50

If you have to hire accountants & tax people or retain them on-staff, I would not view your business as "small"..

You may be small compared to General Foods or Kellogg, but MOST businesses pale by that comparison..

Our government-types lump all together, and use broad statements..

Truly small businesses CANNOT pay "living wages" to all their employees..That's precisely why people often have SEVERAL part time jobs because they cannot earn enough at any ONE of them , to survive..
