6. private law enforcement, maybe
The cutting of funds to our public servants, municipal/county/state LEO and FD, has been inevitable because of the economy - that means no salary increases (most don't make large salaries) and a cut in manpower and overtime.

There are those that are trying to promote the idea that privatization of those services is the answer.

25. Well
they all (that I know of) handle the bankruptcies involved in the foreclosure process on behalf of the lender (representing the lender in bky court if/when any defendant files). One or two have altogether separate bankruptcy divisions not related to their real estate business whatsoever.

26. They'd have to have a separate division
for personal bankruptcies unrelated to their representation of the lenders. Otherwise, you've got a massive conflict-of-interest situation that would never pass muster with the Bar Ethics Committee.

The old Chinese Wall goes into effect, and it always works pretty well.

Imagine. This is what our country has come to. When I finished law school, in 1976, the biggest plans were to do good, achieve justice for the downtrodden and those who had been unfairly treated by our society. We wanted to hold government accountable, at the same time making sure that the individuals were protected. We had gotten rid of Nixon, and even though we had an unelected President (Ford) as the Bicentennial rolled around, we still believed that we could effect great and good change, that the country could and would embrace and encourage our efforts.

The idea of what a Rehnquist Supreme Court would do hadn't yet penetrated our tender young brains.

We really believed .......................

27. I understand the rant.
I was headed to law school with the same ideals, albeit in the 1992 mentality. Realized that it just wasn't reality.

And yeah, the ones that do it are like two law firms under the same roof. Nothing bleeds through for the very reason you mention, and of course, at no point would they consider representing both the lender in the f/c and the debtor in the bky action. That would really draw some ire.

The firms that do this have so many to do in a day, they have no time to coordinate with Goodwill, etc, so they just bring a dump truck up to door & toss everything in it..

People a block or two away from us,did something unique.. The day before they were "removed", they had an open house.. invited all the neighbors in , to take whatever they wanted.. People had a barbecue/going away party for them, and all day long, neighbors came in empty-handed, and left with "stuff".

They people had taken what they could fit into their "next place, an apartment), and this was the stuff they planned to abandon..

36. NO, IT IS NOT.
Sorry for yelling, but I *am* an exotic dancer and a member of two boards dedicated to my profession. We had girls that I've known for a long time post to NOT come to certain cities because EVERY club is ovverrun with girls, and new dancers who think this is a fuckin' gold mine. Now, almost every club I hear of has twice or three times the amount of dancers on shift than the customers that come through the door. My husband is a dj at one of these clubs also.

It's seriously hurting those of us that have been in this for awhile, and is very irritating that all these other people think this is 'easy money'. WE do well when everyone else does. You'd think it would be obvious, but I guess not. A lot of ladies and gentlemen are getting a rude awakening.

I am not currently working, I last worked about three months ago. I don't like any of the options I have around my city. I hope that will change in a month or so..there's a new club that supposed to open, but if my husband is working there they may have a non-fraternization clause in his contract; so I may not be able to work there either.

If anything changes I will let you know.

They're hiring everywhere. About the only job you can get here, anymore. If someone needs to feed their kids/keep their home...they're becoming dancers.

I see what you're saying about doing well, but by Cleveland Hopkins airport, business seems to be booming in the industry.

47. Just because they are hiring does not mean they are doing well.
First of all, the greedy club owners are in heaven (although they are just as dumb as the wall street idiots) because with all the women that are wanting to work, they are getting rich.

Remember, WE ENTERTAINERS PAY A NIGHTLY HOUSE FEE (we rent the stage as independent contractors)to work. There are exceptions to this rule, but in most of the US this is the norm.

So, the more women they can entice to come work for them, the better their bottom line looks - for at least awhile. It's expected that you either pay your house fee up front when you get there, or first thing at the end of the night. In some cases if you can't or don't pay your house fee, you are not allowed to work, or it is added to the next night's fee; etc. etc. In this economy, the owners are making up for their lack of revenue on drink sales and door sales by getting more house fees from entertainers; i.e. hiring as many as possible; & preying on the desperation and naivety of newly-laid-off people.

Any dancers that are doing well are usually what we call 'extras' girls, which of course means they are giving the customer sexual favors(of course this is not always the case). Again, the greedy owners have spent most of the Bush administration time looking the other way as extras girls overran the industry, because it was easier to deal with them than real entertainers. Now, (and you will see this really clearly in Ohio due to a fairly new no-touch and early close law that was just upheld in a court challenge); a lot of states are taking advantage of the laziness and inattention the owners have exhibited, and passed extremely strict laws that are aimed at severely restricting or closing a lot of these clubs. I can't sympathize with the owners too much, even though I feel for my sisters and brothers who are suffering because of these new laws.

I am sure there may be pockets of the country where a club or two has managed to hold on to a group of regulars/ a good draw crowd and the girls may be doing well, but in most cases we are all seeing a very sharp decline in earnings. Many girls are reporting averaging $100 or less; some $20-$50 a night or less(this in other parts of the country from where I am). One of my best friends has stopped working entirely because she was leaving in the negative every night she tried to work the last couple of months.

I do hope there will be a turnaround, but it is really in our industry's best interest to see a 'thinning of the herd' as it pertains to number of clubs per capita, as well as entertainers. It's easy political capital to target our industry, and a lot of lazy owners have made themselves sitting ducks.

Sorry; off on a tangent. I've been studying this for years, and am a bit passionate about it. Most ppl don't have any idea what this biz is really all about, and I have not even scratched the surface here.

I hope I am completely wrong and the ladies & gents in Cleveland are banking money. But I highly doubt it.

50. I'm not arguing with you...
I think you missed the point that I was trying to make, entirely.

Right now in Ohio, jobs are terribly hard to come by. McDonald's isn't even hiring. I know of women that are dancers now (at your more up-scale establishments)....not because they really want to be, but because it puts food on the table. Hell, if I lose my job and couldn't find anything else, I'd do the same.

I wouldn't be surprised one bit if establishments are run just as you said. Everything is corrupt, anymore.

54. Really, all of the above, but
there seem to be certain nights where everyone comes in and blows what little they have to spend - example being this past friday nigth where my husband had a couple entertainers make, I believe, between $400-$500 each. There were around 60 ppl through the door of a club where capacity is around 85, I think?
However, for six or seven days leading up to that, there were less than 15-20 ppl in the door each night, and sometimes under 10. So you see how that can seriously even out.
And yes, patrons have MUCH less disposable income.
