IF Members of Congress Let Cheney Skate On MURDER Then They Are Complicit... |
|
IF there was an assassination team within the CIA that Cheney was operating out of the Office of the Vice President without Presidential approval and briefing to Congress, then the deaths that occurred as a result of Cheney's orders are not official government action, illegal, and in every respect MURDER --not to mention violations of diplomatic agreements and conventions that bind countries in their relations with one another.
This most likely was not just a matter of 'scope' in carrying out a counter-terrorism program that Congress was fully briefed on.
Its time we called out the wrongdoers, held them accountable, and put our country back on the legal footing that the Constitution requires.
And P.S. --Don't expect the MSM to do your job for you, they will give Cheney cover until Congress stands up to Cheney.

2. Well, I guess that from your point of view it is highly likely they will be complicit. |
|
Much in the same way as the constant cries for Bush to be impeached never came to pass although there were more than a few here who were absolutely convinced it would happen.

3. There is no middle ground here... either they act or they do not.... |
|
... and the consequences of that decision are unchangeable.

4. What is this "if"? We already know they are as complicit as hell. |
|
That's why they keep having hearings rehashing the same horrible crimes and have to fake surprise every time they retread the same old ground. They earn that lobby money by their mugging alone.

5. They dare not speak out |
|
they know that to do so would mark themselves as a target on Cheney's hit list.
The slogan in Congress is, 'Give Me Liberty....but if you can't do that I'll settle for some juicy Campaign Contributions.'
some might call that moral cowardice. I'm inclined to agree.

6. Congress can only investigate. |
|
They have no power to enforce the LAW. Law Enforcement is the duty of the Executive Branch (The White House). The DoJ is organized under the Executive Branch.

7. Let them investigate - |
|
I'm sure they will find mountains of evidence - but like Jonathan Turley said, if the Obama administration does nothing, then they are complacent and in effect, become part of the crime.

8. At this point, Congressional Investigations are a waste of time. |
|
The ONLY investigation that will mean anything is an investigation/prosecution by the Dept of Justice. There are already mountains of evidence, and according to the ACLU in a letter demanding that Holder immediately appoint an Independent Prosecutor, the Statute of Limitations is running out on some of the worst offenses, and will expire THIS YEAR.
Can you name a Congressional Investigation that has had any significant results in the last 30 years? Do you remember the Senate Investigation into the abuses at Abu Ghraib?. Congressional Investigations are about face time for celebrity politicians gathering soundbytes for campaigns...not Justice.
Besides, BOTH Parties are complicit.

9. "Congress can only investigate" was enough to bring down President Nixon in Watergate.... |
|
When the Constitution assigns a responsibility on a governmental entity or office holder, there is always the power to exercise that authority.
Congress has the responsibility to 'investigate' violations of the Constitution and Law where it is their responsibility to exercise oversight over the actions and functions of other branches of government.
Congress may make a criminal referral to the DOJ where it uncovers evidence that indicates crimes were committed, and the DOJ initiates and carries out the prosecution.
But make no mistake, the responsibility placed squarely on Congress to act as a 'check and balance' on the actions of other branches of government when it comes to criminal conduct cannot be abdicated without being guilty of complicity.
