Hackers' Next Target - Your Brain?
Source: Fox News

In the past year, researchers have developed technology that makes it possible to use thoughts to operate a computer and maneuver a wheelchair. Another new device reportedly can convert brain waves into data and transmit the data via wireless technology into the minds of other wearers of the device.

These technological advances seem like exciting breakthroughs for researchers, but some scientists are concerned that "brain hacking" or "mind hijacking" is a real possibility that needs to be taken seriously.

"Neural devices are innovating at an extremely rapid rate and hold tremendous promise for the future," computer security expert Tadayoshi Kohno of the University of Washington told Wired.com . "But if we don't start paying attention to security, we're worried that we might find ourselves in five or 10 years saying we've made a big mistake."

At last month's World Science Festival in New York, leading neuroscientists described how far we've come in our ability to peer into people's minds. Some experts think the hackers can't be far behind.

4. Nothing new! Jesus has been doing brainwashing for years!
Nobody brainwashes the gullible more than Christianity! They've been in the mind control business for 2,000 years!

7. count me 'brainwashed' then! and Gay! and Liberal for abortion rights, marijuana's open sale,
Edited on Sat Jul-11-09 04:53 PM by Divine Discontent
and plenty of other progressive thoughts - but I guess I've been brainwashed to like ladies like my mother indoctrinated in me, and the cannabis crowd did their mind control, and those nuts from N.O.W. did in getting me to 'slaughter' babies. but don't let that stop you from bashing someone's faith sarcastically...

you can have your belief in no god, or live agnostic, or whatever - but to attack Christians on a thread that had nothing to do with faith shows you are the one with the strange prob to twist the conversation from technology to faith.

It's a pity that you're not more open-minded like I am in respecting that some of my fellow DUers don't share my faith, and may be Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Agnostic or even believe in no power but our own, but still respecting that it's their choice and not mocking them & their chosen faith or belief/non-belief.

8. Muhammad does a much better job
When was the last time you heard of a Christian suicide bomber? People who adhere to the tenets of Islam are by far the most gullible on the planet.

15. Ah, come on -- it's all superstition in the end, why nitpick which delusion is more delusional?
Can't recall the last time a Muslim killed an abortion doctor, for example. It's all nonsense anyway.

19. Of course, I was being facetious
The topic in the OP had zero to do with religion, but that didn't stop that poster from shoe-horning a disparaging remark about religion into the thread. It's as though someone asked "What's 2+2?" and that poster answered with "a head of lettuce and shaved carrots!".

With your five senses, you have plumbed the very secrets of the universe and have a corner on kozmik trooth!

Why, you even have an opinion as to what is superstition and what is not.

5. They've been researching this since the 60's.
Despite what the neysayers would have you believe, the body is one big transmitter, and the nervous system is the backbone for the communications hub.

If you actually think about it for a while, you'll see that nerves are not the end all for triggering a response in a muscle fiber. It is a trigger, which is carried along throughout a mass of bundled muscle fibers. It is the individual cells that communicate the response after the initial stimulus.

When Galvani discovered that electrical current stimulated muscle fibers, that was the first baby step in understanding the bio-electric nature of the body. That is a major part of it, but not the end, and researchers have been looking for the link between brain impulse, nerves and muscles for a long long time.

Laugh if that's the only thing you can do, but the true ramifications of this is the fact that this capability is intrinsic to humans, and does not need any fancy equipment to accomplish. If man were not so distracted, bombarded with signals, and so focused on the mundane, he would see very quickly that we can tune in to external signals.

We already have brain hackers. It manifests itself in the abused spouse that sticks around that abusive partner for reasons that are only apparent to the abused. It's part of the ongoing mass plague that infects our society today, a compulsive conformity and obedience to a system that demands loyalty and membership, or be cast out into any number of lower castes. Independent thought be damned.

Many people can read aura's, which are the overall bandwidth transmitted from and individual. Many times, the aura is perceived as a color, since we are picking up on a bandwidth of electromagnetic radiation, which is nothing more than another species of light or radio wave.

One thing is absolutely certian however, and that is the ongoing, concerted effort by mainstream medicine to demonize bio-electric remedies and cures. They will happily trumpet the dangers of X-Ray's in relation to Cancer, but denounce magnetism, radiotherapy, or electophoresis, when all of these, by the laws of Physiscs, are undeniable in their effect on matter and the atoms we are made from.

Theolgy and unethical Science are dance partners attacthed at the hip, each one utilizing one anothers dogmas's to prevent man from realizing his true potential.

Much better to hate the infidel, keep millions of people malourishes and weak, both mentally and physically, and promote os survival of the fittest ethical mandate that will destroy us all.

When our body goes into survival of the fittest mode, just remember that it is called Cancer.

20. I'm not your personal researcher, you can do that for yourself
It's not like the material is not out there for those with an educated mind to determine for themselves.

In fact, it's much better if you determine your inability to be part of it, then you'll have more time for Nascar and the next issue of Car and Driver magazine.

I love how you casually throw in "if it were factual". Impressive. Point out one thing that is NOT factual.

28. There might be a positive out of this
What if, for example, you were able to record a day's worth of class lectures, pop it into a neural interface device, and have it play back while you sleep? Think of all the extra beer you could be drinking instead of cramming for that next exam! It's brilliant!
