Poll question: Which Type of DU-er are You? |
|
The Casual Observer - Comes here mostly to read, but jumps into discussions occasionally.
The Newshound - Scouring the 'net to share content with the DU community, or use DU as your news hub.
The Professor - Using research and thoughtful commentary to share your original analysis of current events, or you best enjoy this type of content.
The Wisecracker - Going for the DU-zy, when the opportunity arises.
The Activist - Here in hopes of organizing or participating in a community that could make a difference in the "real world".
The Logician - Honing in on factual guffaws, questionable sources, faulty logic, and inane opinions - then going in for the kill.
The Gatekeeper - More focused on the social dynamics and maintaining the quality of the DU forums.
The Bard - Uses DU as a creative outlet for writing and/or visual art.
The Disruptor - This place sucks. Your mission is to influence the DU community in a negative way.
If you have an "other," please try to vote the best match, then post below.

But what I really mean is -
when I read I'm a Newshound in search of opinions and analysis from people I trust (most).
The greatest attribute of this well run site are the posters who help all of us to help each other peel off the layers of propaganda or lies or spin of brainwashing or self-absoluion or self-denial. To go below the surface of the iceberg to see the other side of the truth.
When I write it is to add reminders, answer, ask, add a layer of analysis, speculate, and rant/vent.

26. A combination of Newshound, Logician, Gatekeeper (Troll Hunter), and Fortune Teller-- |
|
Edited on Sun Jul-12-09 10:30 AM by Mrs. Overall
I love LBN and I do love to sometimes question DUers' logic and sources, and I must also admit to being a grammar nazi at times.
One of my favorite activities, however, is being a troll hunter. I've developed, over the last 6+ years, a fairly good eye for the slight mistakes trolls inevitably make, and I've learned to identify a certain "tone" most of them adopt. Sometimes a tombstone is quite satisfying.
I would also add "Fortune Teller" to the list because DU often breaks and discusses stories well before the mainstream media. My friends are absolutely amazed at my uncanny ability to "predict" future news that they will later watch on network or cable.

29. I think that depends on what makes your eyes roll: |
|
Are you an eye-rolling newshound keeping tabs on the latest GOP antics? Or are you a logician, rolling your eyes at the mental gymnastics a DU-er would go through to make his poll categories fit?

Too many disruptor, gatekeepers, logicians around here lately . . . so keep quiet and read the Professors, Activists, News Hubs and most important? The Wisecracker. Sometimes on occasion I'll run into a moron who still thinks Bush is the greatest President ever, or a foaming at the mouth Libertarian who hasn't really thought out what it means to be a Pure Libertarian and - the Wisecrackers get me off my irate path. :-)

35. Voted "Wisecracker," but "Cynic" is more appropriate. |
|
I see the nonsense...primarily whining about how Republicans and Christians are unfair and upset and miserable, and treating progressives so unfairly...and I get pissed off.
If these people were really inconveniencing you folks, you would DO something about it. Like get in their face and scream when they pull crap on you. You would do more than take the whining done on DU and sending it in a Letter To The Editor, one of the lamest and most pathetic things a person can do. You would take...God help me, explaining this makes me feel so ashamed of you...you would take PHYSICAL ACTION.
The Westboro Baptist Church is far more effective and gets more press than you, even though they are psychotic and retarded cult members, because they DO something. You guys are even afraid of the use of the word "retarded." You wouldn't stand outside of Limbaugh's studio, as his larded carcass was loaded into and out of his limo, shaking signs in his face saying "GOD HATES CHILD RAPISTS" or "THANK GOD FOR OXYCONTIN" or other obnoxious slogans. And you wouldn't have the courage to stand out there every day. Or to stand in front of his sponsors' corporate headquarters with the same signs.
This is why you fail.

I think I get a lot more out of appreciating or fighting DUers than what I give back. Some of us need the variety and resist trying to pigeonhole everyone.

Pretty much always "welcomed" to DU whenever I do actually post. Usually whatever I was going to contribute to a thread has already been said better by someone else, so I don't bother. It did kind of stink when I decided to get rid of my anti-Bush username last summer since he was on his way out...I had to start the super-slow post accrual all over again...
