12. One of my tasks for the weekend was to review an article submission

for a journal.

The article was flawed in a number of ways. I wrote up suggestions for revisions, explained why I was rejecting it for publication, and sent the mark-up and comments back to the editor. Apparently, I was censoring the authors of the article! Who knew? I am more surprised to find out that I've been engaging in these Nazi practices for quite some time. Moreover, other people in my field have practiced censorship on me from time to time! I'm astounded.

I think it's bizarre that people are so upset about this. And I know damn well that I won't win any popularity contests here and that my posts will be unrecced just because I authored them. Yesterday, I wrote an OP that said nothing more inflammatory than have a beautiful day and it got unrecced. I find that pretty funny.

I took that as an apology. As I look through the record on MJ threads, however, I see no evidence that you attacked those of us who mourned MJ's loss. Plenty did, but from what I can see, you did not.

I retract my accusation and apologize.

All the same, wouldn't it be better to show some respect and understanding for those of us who think the unrec function is a bad idea? Wouldn't that be better than mockery and derision? We are, after all, intelligent adults, and we're on the same side, on the big issues that matter more, at least. We still care about DU and are offering our opinions about how it might work best. Is that so bad? Is that worthy of scorn?

And by the way, I don't love the unrec thread as it stands. However, the hysteria over it, is really absurd to me. And no, I don't think there's anything wrong with saying so.
