Leahy is blasting the repuke attacks on Sotomayor and
sending off a volley of warning shots to the repuke members on the JC. I heard him on local media a few days ago saying he wouldn't countenance unfair attacks on her. He's letting that be known right off the bat.

1. Like that will mean anything to Sessions
Edited on Mon Jul-13-09 09:13 AM by rurallib
expect racist shit to spew any minute when he speaks.
ETA - I believe Sessions and Grassley swapped spots on this committee just so Sessions could get this shot.

4. Evidently, he speaks for his base.

It should be no surprise that this neocon sounds like a neocon when he talks. This is who they are. Let it be revealed and reviled.

2. I don't think this comment was helpful. The R's know they can't lay a glove on her for a lot

reasons. First, she's replacing a liberal justice, so it doesn't change the composition of the court.

Second, the R's are so anxious to get Latin voters on their team, they won't touch her.

This confirmation is going to be a breeze, so, in that context, I don't think Leahy's comments were necessary or useful, and I love Pat.

It's always good to see someone on our team play tough, but we don't need it here.

10. Sessions is giving you a preview of how vicious the repubs on the Committee are going to be
yes she'll breeze through- because the dems have a +5 advantage on the Committee, but that's no reason to let the repukes on the JC get away with false and scurrilous attacks. You seem to want Senator Leahy to play Senator Milquetoast. Thankfully, he won't.

6. Kind of sad he has to remind everyone to mind their manners, which
seems like what he was doing. And here goes Sessions, harping on empathy. Same as it ever was.

12. He's doing fine work
When he gets done, Hispanic support for Republicans will be down in the single digits, just as African-American support is now. :applause:

Sotomayor... it's about Obama".
