Why do Republicans feel if they can get 23 no votes on Sotomayor they win? |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-13-09 11:24 AM by Winterblues
Not stopping the nomination but a win for their Party. ????? I don't get it. I understand 23 is a majority of Republican Senators but a slight one. I have heard that number tossed around as their goal. They know she will win easily but still want to be seen as the Party of No..

2. Little victories are all they have. Must hold on to their base. |

So they'll bleat and bray about 23 votes and how it shows the Republican Party is still loyal to its values - all for the benefit of the nutjobs who still support them.

No one is gonna care about the number, unless it is really close. And it won't be.
The Senate just needs to get this exercise over with and get on with other things.

The mind of the average Repuke is a dark and dangerous place to be. My guess is that they want to feel as though they've inflicted the maximum amount of damage on Sotomayor before she gets the eventual confirmation. I don't understand what their long-term strategy seems to be though- since once she's on SCOTUS, she's on and there's not much the Repukes can do about it- but I guess they CAN use her nomination of her to attack President Obama........somehow....down the line.

9. Because that's the best they can do, so they have to act like it's some kind of victory. |
