1. Shuster let himself be entirely shouted over, shut down and silenced by Taylor. |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-13-09 02:43 PM by Berry Cool
I am utterly disappointed with him. What a wimp.
Adding more to elaborate for the cube rats: Taylor yelled and shouted and would not let Shuster get a word in edgewise, saying that Shuster's story was a lie, that he must have gotten it from Daily Kos and they are not a reliable source of information, that the thread of malicious statements was NEVER put back up after being taken down--that was a lie too--and that while sometimes the Freepers overstep the site's standards, "At least we HAVE standards. The leftwing mainstream media HAVE NO STANDARDS." ("What they said about Sarah Palin's children was far worse.")
When Shuster went silent and let him speak, he spoke calmly and quietly, but everything he said, on which he was not at all challenged by Shuster once the initial shouting match was over (David never got a serious word in to challenge anything he said) was that Free Republic carefully monitors itself but the MSM do not, and the people in the MSM who castigate Republicans and conservatives every day do so with impunity and remain welcome within it. He also said Jim Robinson is not responsible for what individuals post and thus has no need to apologize for it.
That was all. Not a word spoken to contradict a thing he said.

|
Edited on Mon Jul-13-09 02:43 PM by AngryOldDem
Plus, how can you really explain slander against an 11-year-old?
I got the sense that Shuster was battling time...I would have rather had a few minutes shaved from the CIA story and added to this one. Someone needs to start calling out FR on its bullshit. It has to own what it decides to display on its site.
EDIT: Word choice.

22. Psstt... it's called Sexually Transmitted Disease, now. |
|
Because "venereal disease" makes it sound like the fault of only women.
Just wanted to let you know that your comment was kind of sexist, even though I'm sure you didn't intend for it to be.
That said, I agree with your thought process. :hi:

He also let the freeper dominate the conversation. Standard right wing tactic of talking constantly.
That was disappointing. He let them off easy.

to go back to recording political and news shows again so I already set TiVo to get KO and Rachel, who he has seen before, and also Big Ed who he has not yet heard of.

I doubt that anyone will be able to shout him down. The man is a master debater and can make his opponents look foolish. Of course, FR does that all by themselves.

Taylor just keep deflecting blame and talking over Schuster. I expected David to handle this more agressively. Usually he's pretty forceful.

14. Damn, I wish that could've been uncensored. Shuster couldn't fully go at that fucker |
|
but he was very clearly disturbed and furious at the crap that was being spewed.
Definitely not Shuster's best performance, but sometimes when you're so angry, you are not as effective as you can be. They need to polish things up and come in for round two with the writer from the Vancouver article and destroy those lying POSs.

If the Freeps want to be known for being malicious and ignorant--let the banner fly!
And also...how in the world does anyone lose this argument, if they're trying???
How does anyone justify calling a young African American girl, "ghetto trash"???

18. As far as I'm concerned, Shuster gave a lot of power away from the start |
|
because either he refused, or MSNBC would not let him, quote a SINGLE THING SAID.
All he did was make vague reference to "inappropriate" things being said. Never did he specify that the words "ghetto" or "trash" were used, that anyone speculated as to when Malia would get "her first abortion," etc.
A person just tuning in who had no clue what had been said would think it was a silly media-created tempest in a teapot.

19. Freep said the comments were "exagerated" |
|
I wish Shuster asked him if he'd like to hear the comments read aloud on TV and credited to his forum. Then viewers could decide if they were over the top.
Shuster could have said "Ghetto Trash" on the show without repercussion. That would defuse Taylor's claim that the issue was overblown by Kos.

There is no degree of inappropriateness as it concerns racial and sexist remarks -- one can't be seen as being "not as bad" or "not as offensive" than the other -- especially when such remarks are directed at a child.
This was not FR's finest hour, like it has any anyway.
People can check it out for themselves, so I'm sure the scrub brushes are out in full force over there.

....I read the Vancouver article that quoted the offensive comments from the Freepers ~~ it takes a lot to shock me and what was posted on FR most certainly did.
It was so below the level of acceptable, it is hard to describe.

23. I think they're probably happy they got free airtime BUT... |
|
I think if people actually check out their website like they're hoping will happen, they'll soon see the vile comments and racism for themselves. I think this is a case of... if you like that sort of thing, you'll like that sort of thing and if you don't, you won't. Anyone who would feel at home there at Free Republic wasn't about to be swayed by the fact that they disrespected an 11 year old anyway. So, generally, I'd say the appearance was a bit of a wash for both sides, possibly even a touch of an advantage on Shuster's side though because I would HOPE most people would be against speaking ill of an innocent girl.
