The reason I don't believe CIA secret unit was meant to target bad guys is because they're telling me that's what it was meant to do.

Who's investigative findings about this matter could be trusted?

We are deep into the hall of mirrors on this one.

5. I figure it had to be domestic. They can do whatever they want overseas.
CIA has a huge black budget congress rubber stamps every year without knowing what endeavors it supports.

I want to know but I won't believe it unless it's really, really bad & even then that won't be the half of it.

12. I agree, there was a domestic component. Too many
convenient accidents and suicides over those 8 years.

3. There is only one reason, only one, that the President
was not told of it's existence. Only one.

You figure it out.

8. Exactly !!
The baloney cover stories are flying out too fast.

We know they did lie to us. We suspect they continue to lie to us.
And the political underhandedness to their "story" is hamfisted at best.
Why on earth should we believe a single thing they say.

Investigate now.

9. They are telling us they can't get AQ? even in a GOP admin? who are 'tough' 'hawks'?
Yes there are a ton of things I don't understand here...but for the purposes of people who distrust the GOP more than the Dems, this just goes to show that their 'hawk' status doesnt mean a damn thing.

And yet, the same administration so hell bent on bending the truth to go to war in Iraq couldnt muster the will to find and kill OBL?

I dont get it.

15. It was to target bad guys... but here's the catch... in FRIENDLY COUNTRIES

Basically, the CIA was authorized to assassinate al Qaida members in places like England, Germany, etc.... without the knowledge of the governments of those countries.

That's the bombshell here.

17. Targeting al Qaeda is a lie.
I don't think anyone would raise holy hell about al Qaeda targets being taken out; it's been going on since 2001, and it's not exactly a secret. The media's stated purpose of the secret unit insults everyone's intelligence. There's another purpose to this program, and it's probably one of our worst suspicions about illegality in the previous administration.

Really, why would Panetta put a stop to a program targeting our nation's mortal enemies? It doesn't add up. If the right-wing commentariat doesn't repeatedly attack Panetta and the Obama administration on grounds that they are putting us at risk, you can bet that Fox and friends don't want to be caught protesting too much. They know they'd court blowback and have the real story about the program exposed.

the last few days. DOD (not CIA) but we've seen a lot of blurring of all kinds of lines under BushCo, and whatever they've been purposefully leaking to shape speculation, it's probably last thing I'm going to immediately believe.

Fire Damages Fort Meade Intelligence Building
