Hutchison Officially Taking On Texas Gov. Perry, Raises Millions
Hutchison Officially Taking On Texas Gov. Perry, Raises Millions

By Greg Giroux | July 13, 2009 5:00 PM

After months of running an "exploratory" campaign for governor -- and raising oodles of money for that prospective 2010 race -- Texas Republican Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison made it official Monday: She is challenging Republican incumbent Rick Perry in the gubernatorial primary next March.

Hutchison also announced Monday, at a news conference in her hometown of Dallas, that she raised $6.7 million for her campaign in the first six months of this year, ending what her campaign said was "the first phase" of her bid for governor. Hutchison earlier had transferred $8 million from her Senate campaign treasury to her account for the governor's race, which now reports more than $12 million in cash on hand.

"While phase one of the campaign was designed to ensure we have the resources to deliver Kay's conservative message to voters across our state, it is now time to begin delivering that message," wrote Rick Wiley, Hutchison's campaign manager, in a memorandum.

He added that Hutchison would hold a formal announcement event in August, when Congress will be on its summer recess.

7. Nope. The only, so-called Dem so far is Tom SCHIEFFER, Shrub crony
Yaas, Bob SHIEFFER's brother, for what THAT's worth (as Dem or not). Tommy was another one of those "brains" behind Shrub in his various figurehead incarnations: Shrub was the figurehead of the TX Rangers ball team, while Tommy did all the work, made all the business decisions, and gave all the orders---a proto-CHEENEE. So in the Shrub-dom, Tommy was given two ambassadorships, plum ones, to Japan and (Australia?).

O.K., so now here comes Tommy claiming ALWAYS to have been a Dem, always having voted Dem, except presumably when Shrub was the candidate.

But wait: As of right now, SCHIEFFER is only joined in the DEMOCRATIC side by----WHOM?!1 Why, uh, one idiot, a-hole named-----------wait for it!1------------Kinky FRIEDMAN!1 Yes, THAT idiot a-hole, who believes he is a Renaissance genius (musician, artist, writer), a self-hating "cowboy" like his best pal whassisname, the radio-junked dude (will insert the name when the brain fart subsides).

Yes, the Kinky that ran as an "Independent" last time, against Carole KEATON-(add 5 married surnames), McCLELLAN, Scott McCLELLAN's mommy, so that the two of these two dweebs split the anti-Goodhair vote, thereby ensuring that Goodhair would win with something like 29%.

It just might happen again: Prolly HUTCHINSON the staff-beater will win the Rethug primary against Goodhair, but even if the FOOLISH "PROGRESSIVES" who are SO smart and always vote for NADIR or Greens or somebody like Kinky have burned out on Kinky by now, and maybe Kinky isn't as potent a spoiler as before, REAL Dems don't have much to look to in SCHIEFFER.

9. Here's the latest example of what GOODHAIR does
He had a typical wingnut b.s. scheme. It was a fuck-up. He faked the results. Then he went back for more cash.

He also turned down 1/2 billion in stimulus funds for the state's unemployed. The legislature accepted them. He vetoed. They weren't able to override the way the other two states' legislatures did. So he turned down funds for the lowest of the low (CHIPS, too). But he ACCEPTED fed funds to rebuild the governor's mansion that was burned.

Perry's border Web cameras miss goals

Associated Press

AUSTIN — Gov. Rick Perry's border Web camera program is out of money after a first year that fell far short of the goals for arrests and reports of illegal crossings.

An internal report showed that just 17 of 200 cameras — one for every 70 miles of the 1,200-mile Texas-Mexico border — were installed with a $2 million federal grant received last year.

Reports obtained by the El Paso Times indicate that nearly 125,000 people registered as “virtual Texas deputies,” but those extra eyes led to just eight drug busts and 11 arrests. The cameras were expected to generate 1,200 arrests.

About 300 illegal immigrants were reported to the U.S. Border Patrol, far short of the 4,500 expected. ....

Perry wants another $2 million for the project, and his office revised a report to make it look like the program had come closer to achieving its goals.

Instead of 200 cameras, the new report said the sheriffs coalition was expected to install only 15, making it appear the group exceeded its goal. The target number of arrests was revised to 25, much closer to the 11 actually made. ....
