Just had an earthquke in CA -- South Bay LA
Sharp jolt, very sudden. Very quick.

6. Check around on the USGS site - they have histories and information about past events
And would have a link to the California earthquake monitoring sites, too.

12. there was a story on DU a short time ago. That talked about worries
brought on by these deep tremors in the San Andreas fault.

14. Yes, there is plenty of worry about the strains developing along the fault lines
But there is no way our science will be able to predict when, where, and how that strain will be let loose. There could be lots of little quakes that would release the strain over time, or one massive quake all at once.

Just be ready and stay safe!

17. New Madrid is the closest big fault line in my region. There's several others
passing through my town, but nothing major.

New Madrid could destroy much of the Midwest. To the east the hard limestone of the Cincinnati Arch would ring like a bell.



The rock in this region is about 400 million years old.
