JERUSALEM (CNN) — A fugitive American white supremacist was arrested Monday in Israel, ending an international manhunt that began in 2007, Israeli and U.S. officials said.

Micky Louis Mayon, one of the 100 most-wanted people in the United States, was taken into custody in southern Tel Aviv after Israel received information from Interpol indicating he was there.

The Ku Klux Klan member was located during a secret operation by Israeli immigration authorities, said Sabin Hadad, a spokeswoman for the country’s Interior Ministry.

He arrived in Israel in January 2008 on a one-month tourist visa, frequently changed apartments and earned money by working part time at several restaurants, the ministry said.

Mayon, 32, is being held at Israel’s Maasiyahu prison and is in the process of being deported, according to Hadad.

1. OK - is it just me or is that a crap article?

Not for what it tells us but for what it doesn't. I totally understand why Israel would be deported; makes perfect sense, but why is he one of the 100 most-wanted people in the United States? As reprehensible as it is to be a white supremacist, it isn't technically illegal, so presumably he did some illegal stuff? But what was it? Is this common knowledge, and I am just not in the loop on this one?

Still it's nice that they caught him.

There's the last place in the world to look for a KKK member. At least it's the last place in the world I'd look for a Klansman.

You're about as likely to find a KKKer in Israel as you are in Rome. The last place the authorities would expect you to hide is among those you most hate. I'll give him a little credit for ingenuity, but I'm glad the ass is sitting in a jail cell now.

I'd love to find out how they tracked him down. I'll bet it's an interesting story.

6. Why Israel?

Seems an odd place to hide.

If you're going to hate on Jews I wouldn't do it in Israel. The Israelis are pretty tough, whatever else you say about them.

Actually he should hate the jews and the arabs. So really bad place to hang out. Try harlem next time.
