Seems like the good ole boys are there to have their day in the limelight. They try to look intelligent - yet they don't know what they are talking about. They ask their stupid questions. Then ultimately Sotomayor will get confirmed - but she went through the initiation.

Now I know why these are lifetime appointments - because who would ever want to interview for another job after this.

Seems like there's more bloviating from the Senators this time, though. Used to be every "question" started out with a long-winded speech, but now they don't seem have much use for questions at all.
