Sessions comment "baffling," Hispanic Fed head says

Jeff Sessions's seemingly unprompted reference to a Sotomayor colleague as "of Puerto Rican ancestry" has irked the head of one of the country's oldest Hispanic organizations.

Lillian Rodriguez- Lopez, president of the Hispanic Federation:

“Sen. Sessions's comment on Puerto Rican ancestry is baffling. First, he focuses on the need to uphold the law based on the Constitution and legal precedent and then he expects our judges to think exactly alike based on a shared ethnicity. Sonia Sotomayor is a brilliant jurist, as is Judge Cabranes. They share a heritage but are highly capable of varied, intelligent analysis of the law. Sen. Sessions should re focus his attention on her 17-year legal career as a judge and allow Judge Sotomayor to respond to valid issues at the hearing.”

2. well, Sessions is an old style southern racist
why would anyone think his comment is baffling? He just thinks Puerto Ricans all think alike; that's what racists think, so there shouldn't be any surprise.

6. And a proud resident of Mobile, Alabama...
...a place that where confederate heritage is important, where the town dresses a bunch of young women up in Southern belle regalia and trots them out as ambassadors of the city, where one of the local heroes is unrepentant Confederate Adm. Raphael Semmes whose name adorns businesses and landmarks and whose statue is at the foot of the city's grand boulevard and a place where Sessions enjoys widespread support.

4. Well duh, that's his line of reasoning, that he's too much of a coward to say out loud...
(a) People with brown skin all think alike
(b) Any member of a group, all of whom think alike, cannot properly be impartial.

Therefore Sotomayor cannot be impartial, as she has brown skin.

5. The only Puerto Rican woman he's ever seen before
was a comedian who said she said "Ai, Papi!!" when having sex. I can't remember her name offhand.

11. Interesting how the mind of a bigot works
They see individual minorities as an amorphous blob of people, all having the same thoughts, likes and dislikes.

It probably never even occurs to him that that there are two Latinos or Latinas who are totally opposite to each other.
