I give her all the credit in the world
How Sotomayor can sit there and remain so calm, cool, and collected while repeatedly having to answer to the same kinds of attacks over and over again is just beyond me. I had hoped the republicans showing their true "colors" would wake up the general population, but after listening to some of the ignorant, disgusting phone calls to Washington Journal this morning, my hopes have been flushed down the crapper.

1. She's terrific.
The Republicans have been abominable.

Go, Judge Sotomayor!

5. Correction taken. I look forward to her showing up for work this fall
and feel a lot better that she has held her dignity against the slobbering and manical racist blather of Graham, Sessions, et al.

4. Yes, she is!
From what I've heard of her previous decisions & opinions, it would seem that the conservatives wouldn't have a problem with her. They're beyond abominable...they really are disgusting!

9. I don't understand how people watching DON'T see it as
them digging their own graves! I had WJ on before they cut to the House session and a large majority of the phone calls were really sickening. I'd like to think it's only the "29%ers", but it still makes my blood boil how people just eat up the shit that's served to them by the right. How can anyone with an ounce of sense look at this hearing and not see what's going on?

14. That's why I yell at the TV so much
I've been getting into some rather heated e-mail debates with a republican friend over the last few weeks. He knows I'm FAR left, but continues to send me far right propaganda and "jokes". I finally had enough and responded a few weeks ago, answering every bullshit argument line by line. One of the lines in his message was about wanting to literally split the country in two and they'll take their guns & corporations, while we'd have our organic food & welfare programs. I ended up telling him I'd love nothing more than to have them all confined to their own little country and that it wouldn't be long before there was a flood of "illegal" conservative immigrants into LeftyLand...and we wouldn't turn them away!

What goes on inside their heads? How the hell can they not hear what they say or read what they write and not think to themselves "Wait a minute...this doesn't make sense"??

6. I'd guess she'd been prepped for this type of behavior
It's no surprise we've got racist/sexist Senators serving. I'm sure someone said, "It's likely they'll be racist assholes!"

What I find more amazing than the blatant racism is the fact all the repukes seem to have forgotten it was Poppy Bush that put her where she is currently. It continually amazes me their ability to edit history.

7. I keep expecting her to snap, and go "Look, get me some fucking crayons
and I'll draw it out for you, you ignorant jackasses."

But of course, she's too cool for that, so she just keeps answering the same foolish, ignorant questions over and over and over and over again, and does it with that extraordinary ability to nuance and fine detail everything.

She's quite inspirational to listen to - it's so nice to have a government of clear thinking intelligent people forming around us again.

10. That was my point
I know I definitely would've snapped by now, which is why I never have to worry about being nominated for the court! Even with extensive preparation and knowing they're going to be assholes, I think it still takes an unbelievable amount of self control to sit there and take their crap without showing ANY sort of emotion or snark. She really is impressive.

13. And now that asshole Tom Coburn keeps asking the same fucking stupid question.
And she's soaring past him every time, and he doesn't get it.

And he made reference to her "quote" that judges make policy, which she answered perfectly yesterday and showed how it's taken entirely out of context and is a ridiculous bullshit statement to make against her.

Fucking hell.

and she's doing a great job!

Now, he's interrupting while she trying to answer his stupid fucking question! I must really be getting old because I just have no patience anymore.

11. NYDN conservative columnist said :
The loudest noise in yesterday's Senate hearing on Sonia Sotomayor wasn't the occasional shout of protest from the peanut gallery. It was the air going out of the argument that Sotomayor is a radical activist judge.

21. This is the kind of hazing crap you have to put up with if you want the job she's up for
But here's the reward: Get the job, and you're set for life. No firings. No layoffs. No downsizings. No losing an election.

It SHOULD be tough to get.

At the same time, she really is being made to run a gantlet of idiots and asshats to get there. She will have earned it fully by the time she gets to the other end.

23. Absolutely
The fact that they're not able to cite anything other than the firefighter case also speaks volumes as to her ability to apply the law fairly. In 17 years of decisions, that's all they've got?

24. She's not a liberal
On most issues that the court will deal with regularly, she is a conservative. Sorry to disappoint you all. Look at her record. This dog and pony show is about putting on a political show. She will be quite satisfactory to all of them.
