Question: are the top few posts GD Presidential ALWAYS on the front page?
Edited on Wed Jul-15-09 09:40 AM by Liberation Angel
I almost have never gone to that front page because I usually want to get a little deeper into the forums and go to the latest page to see ALL the latest threads and LBN and then i click on Greatest aand read as many as I have time to that have interesting titles.

But if GD and GD Prez are ALWAYS on the front page, my perspective will be altered.

SO

is that the case or does it depend on your profile and options selected?

Can anyone hide the GD presidential on the front page and will nonregistered visitors automatically see that?

Thanks

10. It means I echo what BlooInBloo said. I, too, sighed.

The tone of some of your posts has just a bit too much of "I'm new. I don't get it. Please explain."

Can't tell if you are just trying to be divisive (Ron Paul thread) or not.

I apologize if I'm wrong about you...

I know that the DU folks have info ready and are wiling to opine and show ff their knowledge.

Sorry if i am stil just learing the ropes.

Unlike SOME people, I am not afraid to ask for directions.

14. I'm a bit conflicted.
On one hand I could say, "I don't buy your shit for one fucking minute."

And on the other hand I could say, "Glad to help you. Have a nice day."

20. That's okay: here's snapshot of me
Edited on Wed Jul-15-09 11:11 AM by Liberation Angel
That's the smart approach.

Don't assume anything about me and watch what i say and argue for or against.

I'm antiwar

prochoice

pro GLBT rights

antiNuke

antifascist

pro 100% renewables

pro self defense (altho with limits on guns)

pacifist

satyagrahaist

pro reparations for slavery

pro reparations and return of land and sovereignty to Native peoples and aboriginals globally

pretty much a social democrat and anti-monoply capitalism and anti corporofascism

There's a snapshot of me

you can count on that

2. I don't know. Is they?
The structure of the front page is pretty evident if you look at it.

Why do you ask?

3. Fixed the "is" depending on the definition of what "is" is. Anyways...I am wondering...
Edited on Wed Jul-15-09 09:44 AM by Liberation Angel
I just wondered if you could modify the front page with your options to hide the GD Presidential forum.

Since I am new here I did not know if the front page was latered by your option settings or if any visitor here always gets the same front page (and if DUers can change hat they get on the front page_

I remember seeing a feature to hide the GD presidential forum ...I thought I did anyway?

7. The Front Page or Home is designed for people who
venture over to DU, not for regular members, who generally choose a different point of entry into the site. I had never actually seen the Front Page before I went there to check your question.

I do not believe that your preferences affect that page.

As for the definition of "is," that's a freeper concern, so I have no idea what you mean.

12. thanks
I originally posted "is" instead of "are" in the OP subject line as i was only going to ask about GD:P in general.

It was a dumb error.

I misplaced my reading glasses...

16. What I meant is that the reference to
what "is" is is a freeper reference. It refers to President Clinton's response to a question, and is used to ridicule him. It's a common catch-phrase among that group. Whenever I see it used, I question the motives of the person using it.

You'll find that this forum has a very sensitive eye for freeperisms and doesn't appreciate them very much. They cast suspicion on those using them. You may want to avoid such expressions to prevent such suspicions.

19. It was a play on words
Edited on Wed Jul-15-09 11:05 AM by Liberation Angel
and Clinton WAS an idiot on a lot of things.

But i would hardly taint a play on words which is a well known expression to associate me with those Nazis.

Or criticism of Clinton either.

I am to the left of Obama and Clinton to me was, in many ways, Bush-lite.

and the Bushes (many of them) were/are Nazis IMHO.

so no freeper reference was intended.

But as I said, if your not paranoid you're not paying attention.

And will continue to until enough newer posts bump it down?

That should explain how it works for you. :)

Wait, are you referring to the main discussion page or the Home Page?

11. Home page
I think I have found the answer

Quite by accident

This modifies my opinion with respect to the unrec feature actually

The system can still be gamed but the damage is not quite as bad as I thought it was.

Since, active threads will keep getting bumped on the home page.

I almost always entered the forum through the latest page and almost never even went to the home page.

But one of my main concerns about the unrec function is that it would keep good threads/issues ff the home page.

i was wrong about that. It may not last there as long and will stil not be on the greatest page (which means far fewer people will see these threads at all.

But at least if it appears on the home page then visitors may see it (where i thought it would only be prominent on the forum they were in)

I still feel the unrec button hurts DU, but not as badly as I had thought.

Thanks for responding.

Too bad people have to get snippy. But I'm a tough cookie.
