Someone just told me that they watched the History Channel re the antichrist
and that Obama fits the profile. She said the AC is supposed to be very charismatic and popular. I told her he couldn't possibly be the "real" AC since half of this country hates him and a real one would win her side over too. Sheesh.

1. Shouldn't they be happy about him being the AC?
If it were true, according to their fantasy, they'd be about to meet Jesus and watch us heathens suffer.

4. By definition, when elected and shortly thereafter, EVERY President is "popular"

...and almost every one of them has to have some level of charisma to get where they are.

5. Well you see, Real True Christians will see through the Anti Christ
Except those who are deceived - so some people will disagree with the Anti Christ. It's just all us muffleheaded liberals who will fall for him hook line and sinker.

You know how you can really tell an evil dude - somebody who wants peace. Peace is evil, as it turns out.

You can't lighten up and laugh a bit? Honestly, I couldn't take the anti-christ horse-roar seriously. If you are, then you've got bigger problems than DU can fix.

And isn't the anti-christ supposed to appear AFTER the rapture? If so, what's your neighbor still doing here?

44. NP... just breathe, then post
we really are on the same side here. I'm also an ordained minister with a very, very twisted sense of humor. Ya gotta understand. Some things are just too hilarious to me, like folks just swallowing whole whatever telepreachahas pull out of their backsides (and charge obscene prices for). Never mind if it has any biblical basis or not -- the sheeple aren't going to look it up. If they do, they won't look beyond a single verse and the horseshit explanation handed to them. AFAIC, 99% of it proves that ol' PT Barnum was right. These days, as close to "organized" religion as I care to get is to perform the occasional wedding -- and I'll happily perform for anyone of any faith or no faith at all. "Organized religion" and "organized crime" look a helluvalot alike these days, it's sad to say.

I guess that's why those TV preachahs are rich as Croesus and I'm not. I've got 3 jobs, trying to make ends meet. Sometimes they do. But I sleep very well when I put head to pillow. I doubt they do.

That's scary enough, but at least you know what you're getting when you deal with an Insane Anglo Warlord.

George Herbert Walker Bush is an anagram for Huge Berserk Rebel Warthog.

Now that's terrifying! :hide:

12. I haven't trusted the History Channel since the early 1990s
when they did a review of the 1980s and said that "left-wing guerrillas" assassinated Archbishop Oscar Romero in El Salvador. It was universally acknowledged at the time that the assassins (who were somehow never caught, despite shooting Romero during a church service) were the fabled "right-wing death squads," the ones who could kill up to 200 people a month and never get caught.

14. The anti-Christ is supposed to finish bringing the world to one religion.
Edited on Wed Jul-15-09 11:58 AM by haele
That's not Obama, even though he's "charismatic and popular". Heck, George Washington and Martin Luther King, Jr. were charismatic and popular. Jefferson Davis and George W. Bush were charismatic and popular. Sun Yat Sen and Robert Kennedy were charismatic and popular... That qualifier means nothing without all the other so-called signs of the book of the Revelator - who was sitting alone. half starving and in exile, on a small island in the Mediterranean complaing about his "brothers in Christ" who betrayed him to the Roman Emperor who put him there. (BTW, it's "The Book of St. John the Revelator", not "The Book of Revelations")
By all indications, the he was expecting the return of Christ in time to save him from exile and take him and his acolytes to Heaven - in spite of his co-religionists that he was having quarrels with.

As it is we aren't even close to having a "one world religion", no matter what the Opus Dei and the Dominionists plan. If your friend is serious about this, tell her it's far more plausible to claim that a future pope in a couple hundred years will be the anti-Christ, than it would to claim Obama would.
Oh, and Christ has to return and be known before the Anti-Christ takes power, so who does she think Christ is nowdays? Surely not George W? Maybe she thinks it's Sen. Tom Coburn or Li'l Kim of North Korea...both men certainly seem to have a messianic complex.

Haele

15. The majority of Biblical scholars believe Nero was the "antichrist"
since the early Christians were writing about their present persecution in veiled, symbolic terms. The "Apocalypse" describes the end of the early Christian world under Roman law and persecution.

Fundamentalists just hate that academic interpretation because then they can't scream and cry about Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Obama being the heralds for the destruction of humanity.

20. The problem with that is the 'thousand years' that followed him
ended a thousand years ago. The millenialist craziness today is NOTHING compared to what it was at the last turn of the millenia when JC was supposed to show up. And didn't (in case you weren't clear on that).

16. If your friend is using the History Channel
as a source of legitimate information, then she is too far gone to help. Soon she will be saying Obama might be Bigfoot ("he's very tall") or an alien ("he's hyper-intelligent").

If her critical thinking is so weak that a cheesy History Channel show on the Antichrist can make them think the president is the devil, there is no point having a debate. Just walk away.

Here's the book:
