1. I've been pissed all day - |
|
the utter GALL of that prick, to say anything like that! And what else could Sotomayor do except to laugh?
I nearly went through the TV set, I was so angry.
And, of course, Desi Arnaz was Cuban, but you know how "those people" all look alike, don't they?
:sarcasm:

3. During questioning today, Sotomayor was talking about gun laws |
|
using a hypothetical about shooting Coburn (who was questioning her), and that was Coburn's reply to her.

4. Tom Coburn (Douche-OK) said, referring to a hypothetical on gun rights, |
|
"You got a lotta 'splainin' to do," which was what Desi Arnaz, a Latino person, often said (in a strong Spanish accent) to Lucille Ball on the "I Love Lucy" show. It seems just a tad offensive to use that expression, given the circumstances...

12. Douches can be useful. He's more like a wet cigarette butt in a used styrofoam coffee cup. |
|
That just takes a lot of typing, though.

23. yea well he has an inordinate amount of power being that he is |
|
one of one hundred...
He says what ever he wants to because he is well regarded by a majority of voters in Oklahoma...
He could care less what you or I or anyone else not in the 50% + 1 that he has cobbled together.
And the media gravitates to him since he is bound to make an ass out of himself.

28. Actually, douches are NOT useful, and probably do more harm than good. |
|
Thus, it's probably actually a good description of Coburn.

9. On the old "I Love Lucy" TV show.... |
|
Lucy's husband, Ricky, was Cuban. The show consistently showed Ricky as a hot-tempered Latin with a comical accent. One of his stock phrases was "Loooooocy.. ju got some 'splainin' to doo."
Tasteless of Coburn to use a mock-Latino ethnic comment directed to a Hispanic American.

A distinction lost on Coburn I suspect.

27. Coburn's Aide later whispered to his boss: "Sir, she ain't from Cuber" |
|
"She's one o' them thar Ricans".
Coburn, recalling another TV personality said: "Well, Whoop-de-doo!"

|
Edited on Wed Jul-15-09 08:29 PM by no_hypocrisy
Many years ago, I was at a freethought/atheist event that featured actress Butterfly McQueen. She gave a talk and then received questions. After some thoughtful inquiries, one member of the audience requested, "Would you please say 'lawdy, lawdy, lawdy?'" A very uncomfortable moment of silence and Ms. McQueen answered, "I'd rather not, thank you. Next question."

They don't have the common sense enough to understand what is appropriate or what's not.
Very rude and very demeaning to Mrs. Sotomoyer.

But IMO nothing (so far) is as low as Graham telling Sotomayor that now might be a good time for her to reflect on her temperament problem.

|

And yet they still got "re"-elected.
Back when he was a Congressman, this guy got trashed by Senator Al D'amato (R-NY) for comparing Schindler's List to pornography. From Coburn's perspective, this attack was quite logical, as naked Jews starving in overcrowded death camps is likely quite erotic to far-right wackos.
