How do all these married Republicans prevent their girlfriends from getting pregnant? |
|
Do they encourage their girlfriends to use birth control? ... Gasp!
Or do they wait until they get pregnant and then pay for them to get them abortions? Double plus Gasp!
Any other ideas?

11. Edwards is not a Republican, but you just have to bring him up |
|
And while Edwards is likely the father, paternity has not been established. I do not see any of the players in this having great credibility in this area: not JE, not RH, and certainly not the Santa Barbara insiders/friends (Baruch, Huffington, et al).
It is a shame we do not have the benefit of the voices of John and Elizabeth during the health care debates. With time, they might have filled some of the void left by fellow UNC alum Wellstone. My hope is now with Franken.

28. Your hope is with Franken? Gee, pay attention. Bernie Sanders is the |
|
go to person in the Congress re health care and he has been for years, and years. He's only about a thousand times better than JE who viciously attacked Dean from the right on healthcare in the 2004 election cycle. There is no void left by that repulsive piece of shit charlatan. Dean and Sanders are politicians who actually have worked for decades on reforming healthcare. JE? Not even fucking close.
You clearly know nothing about who the leaders on reforming healthcare are.

|
See #33 for my actual response to you. I had gone back to re-read my post and mistakenly replied to myself.
Even with his known faults, I see your description of JE as "repulsive piece of shit charlatan" to be way over the line. I saw Edwards as a work in progress, having entered politics rather late. I posted years ago that JE would have been much-better prepared for politics if he had attended UNC Chapel Hill as an undergraduate rather than NC State.
I was fortunate at UNC to have known Dr. Frank Graham, Allard Lowenstein, Paul Wellstone, and others committed to doing what is right, what is just, what will improve the lives of all the people.

|
Edited on Thu Jul-16-09 11:31 AM by unc70
What I said was that I now have hope that Franken will help fill the void left by Paul's death. Not specifically about health care, and certainly not as leadership in Congress or elsewhere. Particularly some of the populist aspects.
Elizabeth Edwards was an effective advocate on health care, particularly countering the RW socialized medicine talking points. We will need all the advocates we can muster. I was making a very personal connection because the Wellstones and Elizabeth Edwards were fellow students of mine at UNC in the 60's, as was Dean's brother Charlie.
I knew them then, though not well.

There's always the old "No Glove, No Love" thing, and of course, the "Get out the Staple Gun" solution, as well!
Further, if the Republican is a fellah, and his partner is as well, no worries! Unless you get caught in an airport bathroom...or someone decides to "tell."

21. Barney had a boyfriend who sidelined as a prostitute--he paid the price for that mess. |
|
At the end of the day, though, his constituents said "No, really? WHAT? You're kidding! Barney's ..... GAY? OMG, OMG, OMG.... WHO KNEW?????"
And they reelected him. See, they, in actual fact, knew, even before he was "out." And they didn't care. He's a good legislator. He just picked a lousy boyfriend.
Getting "caught" for Barn was a good thing. He was finally able to say it loud, and be out and be proud.
After the shitstorm, it made his life much easier.
Cheating on your spouse doesn't have quite the same flavor as what Barney did. He was a SINGLE guy who made an error as to his choice of partner.

Making a bad choice in with whom you have a relationship isn't quite the same as destroying your family and the family of the person you are messing around with. The numbers of people hurt don't compare.

If we only knew how many Republicans paid for their wives/girlfriends to get abortions, the national debate on this issue would be forever changed. I'm looking at you, Bob Barr. "I thought it was a healthcare clinic."

44. Or maybe getting extorted into paying their girlfriends to keep the love child a secret |
|
and using public money to do it. A crafty and ambitious foreign agent could blackmail them and get them to divulge state secrets. Having serial sex sessions with a variety of women could put them in deep shit. Remember the Profumo scandal from the 1960s when the UK's Secretary of War was found to have had a sexual relationship with a woman who was also the mistress of a Soviet Spy? Supposedly, Profumo had discussed the United Kingdom's nuclear arsenal with her and there was speculation that the woman then told her secret agent lover.
