Memo to the Right: Please save your Party from these wingnuts!

I know, I know -- I admit that I have posted in the recent past about cutting down on the bipartisan rhetoric, and yes, I have asked for real dialogue with the right. But jeez, what’s going on with this right-wingnuttery stuff? I can’t believe that most of you on the right would actually endorse the craziness out there, coming from your direction.

First, let’s look at the wingiest of the wingnuts, Michelle Bachmann. First, she vowed not to fill out the census (yeah, that is against the law). Now, she and Republican Ted Poe of Texas have actually introduced legislation that would “curtail the extent of information collected by the U.S. Census Bureau in a yearly survey.” Last I heard, it was ACORN’s involvement in the census that sent her running for the invisible ink. The ire of her own party with respect to her attitude about the census hasn’t halted her. I gotta ask the good people of Minnesota: Where did you get this nutjob?

And, of course, we’ve got the “birthers,” those claiming that President Obama’s birth certificate is false and, therefore, he isn’t qualified to be President. Hey, whatever floats their boats. Let ‘em keep running to court for the next 3-1/2 years -- who cares? But the wingnut award goes to a soldier who has refused to deploy to Afghanistan because he doesn’t believe President Obama is a “legitimate” president. I guess he might decide otherwise if he gets thrown into Leavenworth, but until then he’s standing by his wingnut principles.

Then there’s RNC Chairman Michael Steele – heavy sigh. He actually told a group of young Republicans that he would “reach out to black voters by offering them fried chicken and potato salad.” First he tried appealing to black voters through hip-hop, now he’s racially stereotyping. Does Steele really believe that because he’s black he can’t be accused of racism? He almost got my wingnut award, but unfortunately someone else happens to be even goofier than he is.

Now, of course, we’ve got Sarah Palin resigning from her position as Governor of Alaska to do something with energy or to campaign (for others, of course, never herself) or because it’s the best thing for the people of Alaska or because her family’s been under attack or because the media is so mean to her or because the bloggers or somebody keeps filing ethics complaints. In order to reassure myself that this woman will never, ever amount to anything politically, I’ve included this clip of Palin’s most cringe-worthy moments.

1. The soldier isn't going to Leavenworth. He was a volunteer to begin with!
He only volunteered to go to Afghanistan so he could REFUSE to go because he couldn't accept Obama as Commander in Chief because of the birth certificate thing. It was all a setup...but it did get him fired from his defense job.
