Is this a good idea? If "they" attach a "no abortion services" thingy to the HC bill ---
-- then WE must attach a "free DNA test for up to 3 men of the mothers choosing" followed by a confiscatory, impossible-to-wiggle-out-of Federal child support rule.

I think this could cause the Reeps to back up the truck immediately.

1. Repub spin on that: "Dems tack on $150M "Slut Rider""
...and they'd be at least partially right. Needing multiple DNA tests to determine the paternity of one's baby is Jerry Springer stuff.

Perhaps the phasing needs a tweak. ".....man or men at the discretion of the mother"?

PS, Merc, your one of the smartest people on DU, imo. What do you think of the overall concept?

5. I think publicizing multiple tests would send the wrong message.

I think one covered test to prove paternity if the presumptive father denies it would be appropriate...perhaps with a provision that additional tests would be available under certain circumstances at a discounted cost...with the father being responsible for some of that cost.

I don't know if it'd have the intended effect on Republicans, but it'd be a good idea regardless...and I support stronger child support laws 100%.

...and thanks for the compliment. I don't know about being one of the smartest, but I'm certainly opinionated and I do try to think through my positions :)

3. I like it
The only problem I see is that you can't get blood from a turnip. Even if you can prove paternity and put teeth into enforcing child support, you can't force a sperm donor to work.

4. United Way et al allows contributors to designate specific charities for their donations.
We should allow taxpayers to designate specific government funded programs for which their taxes will NOT BE USED.

There might be enough taxes to fund abortions but fighting unjustified wars might go unfunded.

6. OK ...we'll take abortion and hemorrhoids off the table.
Those pasty old white men can't live without getting their 'bunggies' fixed. In reality I don't know how they can take abortion out of the coverage. Are they going to exclude contraceptives as well? How about Plan B is that out too. The women of this nation will have to march if this happens. Anyone with a daughter or grandchild will have to stand up to this nonsense. I am so tired of women getting the shaft...literally!

10. Viagra and Fertility Services should be removed then to be fair
Why should my tax dollars go to some old white guy who can't get it up?

Why should my tax dollars go to some couple who can't conceive naturally when there are so many unadopted children in need of homes?

It's the same logic they are using to try to take out abortion.
