Can please be allowed to honestly discuss the reality of massive corporate involvement in politics, billions of dollars spent on anti-people (usually referred to with the euphemism "pro-business") lobbying, and Washington politicians deep into the pockets of fortune 500 companies (and MIC contractors)...
WITHOUTGetting dragged into the common "you hate obama/no I don't" wars so common around here? As far as I'm concerned Obama has campaigned and fought more actively on this issue than any other so far and I've said so:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=6074371&mesg_id=6074371But despite this, the chances of getting even a quality
foundation for a better health care system (for those that think we have to do it in stages) is extremely, extremely slim. Why is this the case?
Because for too long we've patted ourselves on the back for our "big tent" philosophy and yet that has meant "Blue Dog" Democrats and DINOs. Rather than fighting to change minds in districts liberals wouldn't win, we instead allowed our party to run candidates that simply
take on the positions of conservatives and corporate shills. So when we finally get our "Democratic Majorities" the mean very little.
We ought to be talking more about that, more about the corruption of our entire Washington political system, the stranglehold of lobbyists and how corporations effectively
own our government.
We see this playing out in the struggle over health care reform - and criticizing the bullshit, and pointing out the corruption on both sides of the isle has nothing to do with so-called "Obama-bashing."
