Nouriel "Dr. Doom" Roubini: "The Worst Of Economic Crisis Is Over" |
|
http://www.cnbc.com/id/31947275Wow. When Dr. Doom says it, that gives me serious optimism.

13. Employment always lags economic output |
|
So I wouldn't start crying yet. I'd be surprised if the unemployment trend turns before the end of the year. Most companies would prefer to get 2 quarters of profitability under their belt before making the investment in new hiring.

5. "Recovery"? I beg to differ |
|
"When I look at them I see so far still more yellow weeds than green shoots. They have to bottom out, in my view they haven't bottomed out. This recovery, unfortunately, because of the debt overhang… is going to be a very weak economic recovery, in my view," he added.
If that's recovery then I submit to Dr. Doom: we're still doomed.

7. The overall tone of that article is not particularly sunny |
|
He still says it's going to be a weak recovery. Here's hoping he's wrong on that one.

8. Nothing in that article gives reasons for his assertion. |
|
I'd really like to understand his reasoning.
I'm not resistant to altering my views as new data is available...I just haven't seen any positive data.

9. The recession ending only means the decline stops, doesn't mean there is a recovery. |

The US in 1935 was no longer in recession but the economy was still in a Depression. Same thing this time. Growth will be slow and weak for a while.

The Great Depression hit bottom, but stayed there for quite a few years before it started going up again

14. Good. Hope so, because I don't know how much more the poor and working class can take. |
|
And saying the "worst is over" always means "the worst for the elite" which means we have to wait another year or so for things to start getting better for the people I care about most.
