Our grandparents went thru two world wars and the Depression. We don't really have a clue what their individual days were like.
I took a tape recorder and started asking my grandmother questions about five years before she died. I found out she used to spend weekends in jail in czarist Russia, visiting with her political prisoner father. Until she hit puberty and then he wouldn't let her visit overnight anymore. Who knew?
