Medicare and Health care for all ...Hmmmm! |
|
While driving home today I listened to my local talk radio program.
A very good question was posed: Why aren't the republicans all upset over Medicare and prescription drug programs? Isn't single payer the same thing essentially?
Why is it OK for one class and not the other? While I agree that medicare has it's problems, hasn't it worked out well overall?
Funny, the calls that came in. No one could answer that question!

1. A public option will prove that the republican mantra is bull shit. |
|
They always say that private industry can do everything better then government. But they are afraid that a public option that competes with private insurance will put private insurance out of business. The two ideas are diametrically opposed.

They've been going around unrecing poverty threads, too, but that is now acceptable and I don't see health care advocates complaining about THAT.

37. I had to look up the exact quote..I almost had forgotten it. |
|
THERE BUT FOR THE GRACE OF GOD GO I - "On seeing several criminals being led to the scaffold in the 16th century, English Protestant martyr John Bradford remarked, 'There but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford.' His words, without his name, are still very common ones today for expressing one's blessings compared to the fate of another.
Bradford was later burned at the stake as a heretic."
From the "Encyclopedia of Word and Phrase Origins" by Robert Hendrickson, Facts on File, New York, 1997.

Of course they had bush for eight years to help them ruin the economy, but this is exactly what the neocons said they wanted. And four years from now, they get to blame a Democrat for it.

I don't know if you're arguing with me, or really haven't paid attention to their real agenda.
They want these "govmint handouts" erased.
And Medicare and Medicaid make them particularly nutz.
And, no, before you ask, I won't look it up for you. You can find it.

I am an RN that works very heavily with Medicare on a daily basis and I haven't seen one person whine or moan about the program. I'm in Texas so I am pretty sure that many of these folks are GOP'ers.
No reason to be rude. Just thought I'd post something that provoked thought.

10. No, those, GOP or not, who are in need and get served wouldn't complain. |
|
As a nurse, unless you are dealing with a rich patient, in which case they likely wouldn't be using Medicare anyway, you're not likely to hear that brand of ugliness. I thought you were talking about politicians.... they have been notoriously vocal about ridding us of the scourge of Medicare and Medicaid.
If y0ou're calling me rude, don't bother. I said I didn't know if you were arguing. DU has become a cesspool of ugliness, and I finally got tired of it and the predictable responses, i.e. "Prove it" and decided to cut off that crap at the pass. It's just too wearing.
Had youy said from the beginning that you're a nurse and don't hear complaints from patients, I would have had a clearer picture.
Actually, from what I understand, doctors don't complain about medicare, either, because they say its much easier to bill.

14. Tons of well off patients use medicare |
|
why wouldn't they? They get their bills paid for along with a supplement!
What I am trying to convey is that there is a double standard in this nation that perhaps would be good to address. One class feels that medicare and prescription programs are fine by them but the healthcare for all is not. I find it delightfully hypocritical.

If that is "nutz", then so be it.
It's better than letting my self be destroyed by the crap that passes for "discussion" here.
If more of us were courageous enough to show our hurt, our fear, etc., we'd be a hell of a lot more human.

and messing with medicare would be very bad for republicans. as i suspect if we ever get a single payer or even a true public option would be the case as well. so they need to try to kill it before it can get that far. that's why they insist that no one one WANTS it, but if they had a choice would flock to it all in the same breath.
