Nevada governor overseas; destination undisclosed

An aide says Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons has left the state on an overseas trip to an undisclosed location.

Interim press secretary Gail Powell said Thursday the Republican governor was out of the state, and that the Defense Department asked that details of his trip not be made public.

Powell would not say how long the governor intended to be gone or where he is going.

A spokeswoman for Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki says Krolicki was notified of Gibbons' absence and that Krolicki would be acting governor from mid-morning Thursday to mid-afternoon July 23.

The news of their trip is made public after they return. No one wants to advertise that they're in Afghanistan or Iraq, but they go there all the time.
