I've seen nothing to indicate people here are really dedicated to doing much other than whine about the debate taking place.

Tell me one thing you've done other than write a post here on the subject, reply to a post here on the subject, or recommend/unrecommend a post on the subject.

1. Called my reps in congress (House & Senate)
Repeatedly.
Emailed my reps in House & Senate
Handwrote a letter to my Senators.

Also convinced hubby to phone them.

Oh - and signed multiple online petitions, useless as they are....

7. wrote to and called my senators and representative
now engaged in a "call the leadership" drive. I just emailed a bunch of media outlets about the issue in hopes of getting people to take similar actions.

17. it's amazing the power we have to do something more meaningful but don't
that's why it's too bad Meetups never took off the way they could have. It is ultimately about physical confrontation of issues and physical actions. Sometimes, I think these message boards are good cooling resevoirs where people who are frustrated can just let off steam and then they're good to go. No tipping point reached of REAL ACTION on something we believe in.

27. Real action meaning something other voting and petitioning for redress of grievances?
No, I will not riot or take up arms. That would make me no better than Koresh, Weaver, McVeigh, or your average tea bagger.

9. I haven't. I see mostly whines, links to articles/editorials...all sizzle, no steak.
so I guess I'm saying unless people can tell themselves they've really REACHED on this and contacted neighbors through the calling campaign or written letters to the editor or gone to town halls of their representative or at least called their offices, I don't think they have much room to whine.

Am I being purposefully confrontational? YES. Because that SEEMS to be the only way to get a message through here. which is sad.

13. BOTH!! that's the point! if you contact them and then tell Obama
you contacted them...he's got more leverage. They have numbers they can use on the wafflers. If they sense there's a certain temperature in a state like Nebraska based on feedback, then they know ads in those areas will be effective.

Sonia Sotomayor testimony is done. She is in. Time to concentrate all efforts where they belong. ON THIS TITANIC ENDEAVOR. We will be so glad we fought when we win this thing.

Edited on Thu Jul-16-09 06:59 PM by PretzelWarrior
under the "Contact Congress" area it has the outline of how a polite call might go. Once you generate the list of who your senators/reps are and make the calls, it asks for feedback right on the form about who you called and what their positions were on health care.

Those will get totaled up for his health care staff and others to see and use.

On top of that, there are other areas to "STAND WITH OBAMA" where you register your support and notify if you are a doctor, nurse, or otherwise in the health care field.

11. You are right. I have not written my letters yet.
I have written my blue dog congress-critter twice on this issue in the past year or so, but not since I saw the recent House bill. I intend to write him and the members of the Progressive Caucus and tell them all that the House bill stinks--that it's worse than doing nothing.

I would be the first to tell you, but demands wrapped in righteous wrath, and said with the zeal of a Sunday morning televangelist usually put me off a bit.

However, should you ever choose to frame your demand for information in a more civil and polite manner at a later date, I'd be happy to tell you what both I and my church are doing to move the cause forward.
