"...WENDELL POTTER: I thought that he hit the nail on the head with his movie. But the industry, from the moment that the industry learned that Michael Moore was taking on the health care industry, it was really concerned.

BILL MOYERS: What were they afraid of?

WENDELL POTTER: They were afraid that people would believe Michael Moore.

BILL MOYERS: We obtained a copy of the game plan that was adopted by the industry's trade association, AHIP. And it spells out the industry strategies in gold letters. It says, "Highlight horror stories of government-run systems." What was that about?

Note: You can download the documents by clicking here and here (PDFs)..."

1. Headline a little misleading
This is about the plan by the AMA to discredit Sicko, not actual documents to discredit Sicko.

they have done a good job IMO.

page 5, document 1...

to make sure that single-payer can be offered in the states.

10. Encourage centrist Dems to warn the party about an association
Edited on Thu Jul-16-09 11:05 PM by Cerridwen
with Moore.

Encourage republicans to raise Moore as a political liability.

BTW, in case ya can't tell, I'm quoting from the docs - ahip2.pdf right now.

eta:

Seek to place a OpEd from a prominent Democrat warning about too close an association with Moore.

eta2: yeah, polls are valid/valuable

Conduct research with Democratic polling firm to show that, regardless of positive movie reviews, Moore's views are out of sync with American voters.

They make pretty clear why. If Dems don't play ball, Dems career ends.

Gee, wonder why they even *let* us vote?

20. Whose "worst case?"...
...Because we're not any closer to the insurance biz's nightmare – single payer – than we were a year ago.

22. See inside for "spoiler"
Movie changes political center of gravity on health care.

The movie sparks a long-term public relations and reputation challenge for the industry.

To paraphrase what you said upthread, they don't seem concerned an actual government, single payer system will happen. It's not even on their radar.

have marginalized and excluded a national health system.

But AHIP is included in the discussions.
