AP: Mo., Kan. receive 8M (in stimulus $) to reduce emissions

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Kansas and Missouri are set to receive almost $8 million in federal stimulus dollars to help reduce pollution from diesel engines.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced the awards Wednesday. The agency said the projects will improve air quality and create jobs.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment will receive $4 million while Johnson County will receive $1 million by itself.

In Missouri, the Grace Hill community in suburban St. Louis will get $2 million and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources will receive $975,609.

The money will go to retrofit or replace older diesel engines in public and private fleet vehicles and construction equipment.
