(Unintended) Hilarious (and really pathetic) response from informational-ly challenged right winger
Edited on Fri Jul-17-09 03:58 AM by Mortos
I waded into a debate with a peripheral acquaintance on facebook who had posted something about President Obama being a socialist for wanting a single payer health care plan. I was going to leave it alone but I am tired of the constant bullshit comments that go unchallenged.

I started off challenging the veracity of the "professor at a local college" email, which turned out to be a hoax. After some back and forth, I brought Jesus into the argument asking if it wasn't a Christian philosophy to take care of the poor and destitute and quoted the Beatitudes.

This is the verbatim response from a Christian conservative female:

"Yes, Jesus did say blessed are the poor and meek, and what you do for the poorest of my people you do for me. But, why should we become like that? I am sure that Jesus would love it if we took care of ourselves, instead of relying on some other entity doing it for us".

...and Jesus wept.

1. Horrible!
What kind of 1984-like doublespeak has this man developed to acknowledge the word of God and spin it into the bright reverse?

2. I want to hear that persons response to the following
"It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God" (Matthew 19:24)

3. She is a not a man
She is a deluded ignoramus who hasn't even the basest concept of the teachings of Christ. I am an atheist and have a better understanding of the bible than most so called Christians.

4. I stand corrected
You said she was a woman. Please excuse me for overlooking that piece of information.

However, I still find this "Christian" spins more than a hurricane on hypo-drugs.

7. Don't you hate when that happens?

I can't begin to say how many encounters I've had with these types that left me thinking that I was a better "Christian" as an atheist than some who profess to worship the man as God.

Jesus of Nazareth preached about faith, humility, and forgiveness. I'll part company on the blind faith parts, but I really don't have a beef with humility and forgiveness. But that's the crux of it, I think. When I "part company with Jesus" (so to speak), it's with a polite 'toodle-oo' and I head off on my own direction.

When they "part company", however, they so desperately need to retain the identity and trappings of "good Christian" that they cherry-pick, reinterpret, and frankly sometimes just rewrite their scripture to say what they want it to.

5. You might as well talk to the cat.
Why would you bother engaging someone like this? They are unreachable.

10. The cat could probably come up with a more reasoned argument
I don't know why I do it. It just irks me that stupid people trash things they don't even understand which would actually benefit them. I tend to use facts and figures while they counter with urban myths and right wing talking points.

It is fun to get them all riled up and when I utterly destroy their weak arguments they inevitably say, we will just have to agree to disagree.

6. I think I understand how she feels.
After all, when God denies you a brain, you have to say stupid shit.

8. "Ya see what Jesus REALLY meant was to make sure
you don't get poor yourself, see. And if you help the poor out, well then they aren't going to help themselves. You especially don't want to spoil them with decent wages. I mean you pay them decently and that's money out of your pocket that keeps you from getting poor. Jesus wouldn't want that. But it's ok if the poor are poor."

9. Wow, did you reply to the 'why should we become like that?' question?
Did you point out that christians are supposed to follow the teachings of Jesus and not make up shit?
