3. If This Were Something New I'd Watch

I'd been hearing Pitchfork Pat's racist, sexist and anti-semetic crap for nearly 30 years now. So it's surprising people that he's such a douchnozzle? Rachel did a good job dealing with him last night, but he's an old fart stuck in the 1950s and doomed to live there.

It's good to call the bastard out, but it's also good that he and his ilk are seen and heard rather than to hide in their parallel universe doing this shit without being called out on it.

I agree with you that it is good to see one of them called out on it for once but I don't think its all that good that his ilk are seen and heard as often as they are simply because they go unchallenged virtually all of the time. I think that when views like that go unchallenged, as they most often do, it serves to legitimize them. That is why I am so pleased with what Rachel did last night. It also showed something else, that she had the brains to do it as opposed to most of the lint-headed TV commentators who wouldn't know how to counter a bad idea when it was right there in front of them.

5. My Friend...We Live In A Different Time...

I know what you mean...and a few years ago, I would have been as hot as others here about allowing Pitchfork Pat's shit to spew as then there were few voices there to refute him. Today his diatribe already has gone viral (in less than 12 hours), blogs are going wild in condemning him, surely either Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert will pick up on it...in each case both exposing Buchanan's bile and ridiculing it.

Give Rachel credit...she knew what she was doing here...and did it masterfully. She didn't have to say a word, Buchanan's ugly was there for all to see. Sometimes it's best to just let the words linger...refuting so quickly tends to lead an over-reaction from the other side that negates the initial outrage. Let's see how this one spins...and how the folks at MSNBC handle it.

6. his racist comments were more blatant last night than I have heard before

The U.S. was founded by white Christian males, the Dec of Ind was signed by white Christian males. White Christian males built the U.S. They have a natural entitlement to the seats on the USSC.

Worthy women, of course, are also welcome - but Sotomayor is not worthy. She is a "token". She got into school on affirmative actions, her grades were based on affirmative action. Half the Ivy League graduates are summa cum laude's. It is not like when he went to school and had to earn his grades.

7. Typical Claptrap

I saw the show live and then rewatched the video. Typical Pitchfork Pat...stirring the shit and looks like he's done a good job.

This isn't anything different than what he's been saying for weeks now. I heard him on in the mornings using similar talking points, the only difference last night is he used 'em all in one place at one time. And as several blogs have noted, he wrote this in his weekly colum last weekend...and did anyone really notice?

So is it news that Pat Buchanan is a racist? About as much as hearing that the Pope continues to be Catholic.

He's a teevee talking head for a reason...he has been debunked and rejected by voters and even the rushpublican party. Yep, he's the cratchity old uncle who sits in the corner and spews ignorant and offensive stuff, but in the end few really take him seriously.
