Another Republican Affair tied to C Street
Edited on Fri Jul-17-09 09:12 AM by merh
Pickering was an "up and coming" politician, then he suddenly retired.

Pickering is the third Republican in recent weeks with ties to the same C Street complex to find his personal life making headlines.

FORMER U.S. REP. CHIP PICKERING’S WIFE FILESLAWSUIT AGAINST ALLEGED MISTRESS
By EMILY WAGSTER PETTUS

JACKSON — The estranged wife of former U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering claims in a lawsuit the Mississippi Republican had an affair that ruined their marriage and derailed his political career.

Leisha Pickering seeks unspecified damages in the alienation of affection lawsuit she filed this week against Elizabeth Creekmore Byrd of Jackson. The Pickerings filed for divorce in June 2008, but the divorce is not final.

The lawsuit says Chip Pickering and Creekmore Byrd dated in college, reconnected and began having an affair while Pickering was in Congress and living in a building for Christian lawmakers on C Street, near the U.S. Capitol.

Pickering, 45, was elected to Congress in 1996, retired in January and is now a lobbyist in Washington for Cellular South, the company Byrd’s family owns. The lawsuit does not say when the affair started.

3. The wife is suing the mistress
The mistress comes from a wealthy family

And Pickering cast himself as a defender of decency, particularly on television and the Internet, and was among House members urging then–President George W. Bush to declare 2008 “the National Year of the Bible.”

18. Oh yeah, family owns a cell phone corporation
In the House, Pickering specialized in telecommunications issues, including one dear to Cellular South: making sure Congress took into account the interests of cellular companies serving rural areas. In Pickering’s second term, he made it onto the House Commerce Committee, a post a senior Republican, Rep. Billy Tauzin, R-La., joked he “had to fight like a demon” to get.

Wonder what legislation she influenced as she influenced this married man.

38. Actually, with all the depraved stuff in the Bible, he fits right in.
In fact, his little affair is nothin' compared to the Biblical porn show.

Here is just one example out of the plethora of freaky stuff that goes down in the Good Book of Incest, Kinky Sex and Murder known as "The Bible":

Judges 19:22-29 A group of sexual depraved men beat on the door of an old man's house demanding that he turn over to them a male house guest. Instead, the old man offers his virgin daughter and his guest's concubine (or wife): "Behold, here are my virgin daughter and his concubine; let me bring them out now. Ravish them and do with them what seems good to you; but against this man do not do so vile a thing." The man's concubine is ravished and dies. The man then cuts her body into twelve pieces and sends one piece to each of the twelve tribes of Israel.

2. Rachel Maddow called it the rethugs' 'safe house', which I thought
was appropriate. Here these clowns are, living and communing in a house set up under the guise of religion, and they're living large and hiding each others dirty, and sometimes criminal, secrets. The joke's on us. I do wonder how many men are being grilled by their spouses, who thought this was a safe house with a very different definition.

Her family owns a cell phone company.

In Pickering’s second term, he made it onto the House Commerce Committee, a post a senior Republican, Rep. Billy Tauzin, R-La., joked he “had to fight like a demon” to get.

And it looks like it was not just his marriage that bit the dust after

Creekmore Byrd and her husband, Dr. Douglas Byrd, were married in 1990 but stopped living together in June 2006. They divorced in 2007 on grounds of irreconcilable differences.

He first won the office in 1996 and he announced in August 2007 he wouldn’t seek another term. There were also issues with his residency during the time, some questioned if he was a resident of the state of Mississippi and qualified to hold office. Seems he was living in DC.

He now works for the lobbying firm which counts Cellular South (her family corporation) among its clients.

The Judge Charles Pickering that Bush wanted to appoint to the 5th Circuit. Bush's recess appointment that couldn't get enough votes because he was racist, so he had to leave the 5th Circuit.

12. Wow, I just read about him at wiki. His reason for switching parties
is jaw-dropping, at least in my mind.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_W._Pickering

Active in the Democratic Party of the State of Mississippi in the early 1960s, Judge Pickering switched to the Mississippi Republican Party in 1964. He claimed at the time that "the people of {Mississippi} were heaped with humiliation and embarrassment at the Democratic Convention" in Atlantic City after the national Democratic Party seated two civil rights activists from the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party with the all-white delegation Pickering supported. Pickering, along with other disaffected segregationist Democrats, played a key role in building the Republican Party in Mississippi in the following years.<1>

Chip (off the old block) dated Elizabeth Creekmore Byrd in college. He gets married and has the "perfect christian family", is elected to office and stays in DC @ C Street, he is there so much that the question of his lawful residency came up during his reelection efforts. Some alleged he no longer lived in MS but in DC.

Mistress, former college girlfriend, is married to a doctor. Her family owns this lucrative cellular phone company (largest privately held wireless provider).

Young congressman gets the assignment to the House Commerce Committee, he was co-chairman of the Congressional Wireless Caucus, the committee that has an impact on corporations like his mistress' family business.

Mistress and her husband stopped living together in June 2006 and were divorced in 2007.

Oh yeah, Chip voted for a Constitutional ban of same-sex marriages, and also to ban the ability of gay people to adopt here in the District of Columbia. You know, the family values guy that he is, he wants only heteros to have the right to cheat on their lawful spouses.

Look at what a weak willed bunch they are as well. Sanford not just cheating on his wife and state (by taking off w/out notice or leaving contact info) but begging his wife to let him see the mistress again. Ensign letting the C Street crew including sons of Family leader Doug Coe make him write a letter breaking off the affair, then calling the mistress telling her to ignore it, then having or at least letting his parents pay her and her husband off.

This photo previously appeared on Pickering's official Congressional website. It was removed in 2003 after critics charged the photo was intentionally deceptive, because Pickering is not a military pilot and has never served in any capacity in any U.S. military force. Each day another hero for the heterosexual community to hold up as a shining example of their values and the fruits of their Sanctified Unions. Remember, each of their 'marriages' is made by their God, in an utterly sacred ritual. The excellent work of that God must be noted. What a great marriage he made for Pickering, and Ensign, Edwards, Craig, Vitter and on and on and on...

In the interest of arranged political marriages, anyone have any background on Pickering's wife Leisha's family?
Did he get benefit politically, financially from marrying her instead of Ms. Byrd in the first place?

Did the mistress' family gain because of his office.

Roll Call reported that Pickering considered leaving Congress in 2003 to take a million-dollar lobbying job with the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association. At the time of the offer, he was co-chairman of the Congressional Wireless Caucus.

I don't really care why he married his wife and had 5 children with her, I do care if he misused his office to help his mistress' family corporation profits.
