On the Summit Circuit, Globetrotting Obama Outpaces Predecessors in Foreign Travel
President Obama, whose international upbringing was touted as an asset during the campaign, has by far logged more frequent flier miles during his first six months in office than any of his recent predecessors.

Friday, July 17, 2009

In his first six months in office, President Obama has traveled abroad the equivalent of twice around the world.

He's visited Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in Moscow to strike an agreement on arms reduction. He's given high-profile speeches to the Muslim world in both Egypt and Turkey. He's set out to tackle the global economic crisis at summits in Europe. And he's signed on to pledges to keep world temperatures from rising.

Somebody break out the kryptonite already.

Obama, whose international upbringing was touted as an asset during the campaign, has by far logged more frequent flier miles early on than any of his recent predecessors.

At the same time, Obama's foreign travel means he's not spending as much time at home -- a review of past administrations showed previous presidents devoted more time to traveling inside the United States.

:eyes:

and what did Bush do in his first 6 months?

1. He's attended more international conferences as well, but has failed to take a month's vacation!

2. Multitasking. My President does it.
His (s)elected predecessor, OTOH, had difficulty walking & chewing gum at the same time.

3. America's international image suffered very greatly in Bush's term in office.
I don't see it as a bad thing that Obama is active on the international stage and working to strengthen American relationships around the world through active engagement with other heads of state. The net result of this can only be a good thing in the long run. And in case Fox News didn't notice, we live in the age of instant communication. Obama, whether in Washington DC or abroad, is able to make informed executive decisions, thanks to that instant communication. It's just simpleminded to presume that although he is active on international issues, just now, that he's just ignoring domestic ones.

And THAT'S . . . "hard work". But your post said it better. :)

Faux will also take him to task if the 28-year screw up known as The Economy isn't fixed in 6 months.

9. Bush spent 40% of his 1st 9 months vacationing and/or brushclearing.
Fully 1/8 of his time in office was devoted to vacations. That's why Obama needs to work overtime these days.

10. If Obama traveled as much as Bush vacationed they'd have to replace Air Force 1 every 3 weeks.

12. and all the time he spends shooting baskets means he's not bowling
and other irrelevancies. He seems to be getting in front of the American people a lot more than Bush did. He seems to be doing everything a lot more than Bush did.

13. Fox "News" needs to get over it.
Travel is a large part of the President's job, guys--or don't you get that yet? Would you prefer Obama took off to Hawaii for a few weeks on a vacation? You didn't seem to have a problem with Dumbass gallivanting off to his pig farm and "clearing brush" for weeks at a time.
