Who is this guy? If there had been abortion ~~ no Obama or Clarence Thomas would be alive today.
I am watching MSNBC and they showed some Pubbie Rep speaking on the floor of the House against abortion ~~ making statements about the mothers of Barack Obama and Clarence Thomas. He is saying that neither of these people would be here today if abortion was around when they were born ~~ that seems to be what he was implying.

I just caught a bit of this ~~ and I think I heard this correctly, but am not sure. Did anyone else catch this???

If I heard this correctly....:wow:

mentioned women aborting black babies.

I didn't catch the Repub's name, but I will listening for it during the replay.

...unbelievable.

Mothers would have aborted black babies....so we would have no black achievers around today.

I was totally stunned!

Edit for grammatical error

3. Rep. Todd Tiahrt(R-KS): If abortions were free then, Obama and Thomas may not have been born.
Edited on Fri Jul-17-09 04:22 PM by Eric J in MN
============================================================
http://primebuzz.kcstar.com/?q=node/19247

Rep. Todd Tiahrt has been waging a battle against taxpayer funding of abortions within the District of Columbia. Yesterday, he posed a new argument. Speaking on the House floor, the Wichita Republican wondered what if President Obama’s mom had had the chance for a taxpayer-funded abortion.

“If that financial incentive was in place, is it possible that his mother may have taken advantage of it?” he said.

Tiahrt reasoned, “If you think of it in human terms, there is a financial incentive that will be put in place, paid for by tax dollars, that will encourage women who are single parents, living below the poverty level, to have the opportunity for a free abortion. If you take that scenario and apply it to many of the great minds we have today, who would we have been deprived of? Our president grew up in a similar circumstance.”

He mentioned Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, too, asking “is it possible that we would be denied his great mind?”

35. Quote exposes the lie and makes no sense
"...paid for by tax dollars, that will encourage women who are single parents, living below the poverty level, to have the opportunity for a free abortion."

No one is encouraging anyone to have an abortion! They use language to make it sound like women crave abortions so much they simply can't help themselves.

As for the poor grammar, what is wrong with republicans, even when they are making basic statements they torture the very meaning out of the language. It kinda makes sense when they are attempting to lie, but geez, they can't even be clear when they try.

25. This is actually a routine fundie/repub maneuver.

Many fundies now try to sell the claim that pro-choice people are racist and that specifically poor black women are encouraged to have abortions. They all hate Planned Parenthood (for obvious reasons) and say that they set up shop in underprivileged areas, particularly close to where African American women can use their services. Ergo, Planned Parenthood is trying to wipe out African Americans. It's a relatively new tactic, maybe a few years old.

There was some fundie journalism student, whose name escapes me at the moment, who did some undercover bullshit thing a couple of years ago, where she called Planned Parenthood around the country and said she wanted to donate, but only if the abortion would benefit a black woman. Several took the donation and when the taped convos hit the internet, the fundies jumped all over it with claims of racism.

I suspect, especially if the repub you're taking about is a fundie, that this is where he was going with that. I might be wrong, but it just rings so familiar.

They think we are stupid as rabbits who would eat our young if not stopped.

And finally, after decades of observation I have concluded: THEY THINK THEIR OWN MOTHERS WOULD HAVE ABORTED THEM IF IT WERE NOT ILLEGAL. The amount of projection in "pro-life" sentiments such as these makes me want to throttle someone.

but I've never heard anything quite like this. He not only insulted black people, but he insulted women, assuming that most women in the situation that Obama's mother found herself would resort to abortion if it was free.

Being both a woman and a mother, I was beyond outraged.
